At present I am unemployed and have been trying for work in Europe wihtout success. Have CELTA, First degree and 4 yrs experience. I thought about thailand since i have a deposit account there with over 43k in bahts and can't get back the money from UK.
So anyway its dead in UK and Europe does not seem much better. So is Thailand a wise choice you think? Or should i keep trying to get a job in Europe? My pref for Europe was Germany, France, Belgium, Austria but beating the pavements in a European country without enough cash is disheartening- tried it in Poland and Germany without success. So the Internet is my sole tool for job search now. Ajarn.com has alot of offers so should i just give up Europe and try for a country which is easier to find work? |

I think this would be difficult for anyone (outside of knowing you personally) to assist your answer. The only thing I can say is, 43k baht in Thailand is more than zero euros where your at. Doing nothing , will get you no where. Sounds like you had some success in Thailand, why not continue doing good there? |

I believe the potential to save money is about the same in both locations so it really comes down to which location you would prefer to live in.

It really depends on a lot of factors, not just earning power.
Jobs are in short supply in Thighland right now. it's not the best time of year, and all of the global trends and economic stuff have hit also.
I was hoping to suggest the old eastern bloc places, but you have tried Poland. Moscow used to have a fair amount of work. Some people like the idea of Chile or Brazil or Costa Rica. There is still a big demand in China because they can't get teachers to work in the "less-than-nice" cities. Some people say Vietnam is nicer than Thailand but Taiwan or Korea have good salaries too. One ex-colleague left for deep Saudi or Oman and is now in 100,000plus dollars job, but in a deserted small town.
I have to say that it's a big LIFE decision, not an economic one. you would probably get a job somewhere here, but you may have to work in a rural school or a slave language academy, at least for a time.
As another thread mentions, the golden dream of Thailand is over, and has been done to death. You have to go back at least five or more years to get back to that time when there were jobs to cherry-pick. Some people say that the 80s and early 90s were the time (but older people always have golden recall). But, some people come here and get lucky.
Best of luck
