I apologize for all the questions, but I'm looking at a job at KFUPM and would like some info about the place and KSA.
Are the family apartments at KFUPM decent?
What is the salary like and can a teacher get plenty of overtime?
What is life like on the KFUPM campus for women?
KFUPM has it't won private beach, can women swim at the beach?
Are the restaurants and supermartket on campus ok?
Will I be able to save a decent amount of money on the wage?
Thank you in advance and if anyone has nay good links to info about the place, that would be great. |

KFUPM seems to be one of the better employers in the KSA from what I have gleaned from the posts here.
Salary depends on Qualifications and years of experience, and appears to be non negotiable. The Holidays are good too with access to Bahrain if you need it. The compound and living quarters are for singles and families and I have received positive feedback on that.
The visa process is a little slow but appears par for the course.
As for the amenities perhaps the grizzled veterans can enlighten you on that or try a search on KFUPM on this site.

Does it have restricitions for women? |

Well you have got me there because I am the way there same as you, but I would imagine that the majority will be teachers from Anglophone countries and more than likely the staff working in the shops, hairdressers etc to be from the Indian sub- continent and far east Aisa from what I can gather from the posts, but I am no expert....the old noggin you know......
Don't worry Mr P, I am sure someone on the ground will be along shortly to ridicule, belittle and finally enlighten you in equal measure.
What's your take....... on cake? a vital question where I come from
I remain, Sir, Mr K |

How would you define a "western style" compound? To me a compound merely means blocks of flats and/or villas inside a fence with varying levels of security from none to strip search.
Are you looking for shopping or other amenities on site or what?

I'm talking COMPLETELY from informed surmise. I was offered a job there once, but needed a loonnngggg break from Saudi, so accepted another position in a different country. But, if I remember correctly, the recruiter told me that the single and married housing was actually on the "K-Fumpum" campus. I imagine that there is a barrier/wall of some kind between the housing and the academic campus proper, but didn't ask.
That said, I also have heard positive word about to this place and scarily enuf, the lil' missus is kinda trying to get me to return to the "Kingdom of Humanity". I dunno. I've lost my brewing recipies. But, IF I ever went back. This would be about the only place that I could stomach!

Well the least you can do is bring the empty barrel and I am sure there are Omar Khayyam's to 'fill the empty cup' and as a bit of bun man myself I should have some yeast lying about the place... though my preferences are more in the Scot47 mold these days. Yes KFUPM gets good press I hope we are not disappointed (Though as man of a certain age/disappointment is all the rage)
We shall see.

According to a recent chat I had with some KFUPM employees, salaries are stagnant and Prep Course class sizes have ballooned to the degree that even the most ambitious EFLer would flounder.

Class sizes are currently around 24. Salaries are not great but adequate. |

I've been trying to get to this place but the best I have gotten is an email saying "send us your qualifications". There is no question about my quals, but I haven't heard back from the three times I have sent them. Oh, well! |

Maybe some of the KFUPMers (pronounced k-foo-pum) past and present can shed some light on this:
On the job ad it asks for CV, covering letter, filled out application form and (scanned I imaginate) copies of degree certs with transcripts.
The job ad also mentions 3 referees, the form mentions 4. Which one to go for? Also, would email addresses be sufficient or must they be postal? |

I've just spoken to the Director of the ELC and he thinks its four referees and give both email addresses and phone numbers (plus postal addresses if you have them). |

If thinking about KFUPM consider also the two colleges that come under the aegis of this institution
Dammam Community College and Hafr Al Batin Community College. The first is in the tricity of Dammam/Khobar/Dhahran. The other is a little to the north of the conurbation. Well 5 hours by road acttually !
