Could someone give me advice on where to look to get certification as a TESOL-ESL-TEFL (etc) teacher trainer or who trains teacher trainers and who hires teacher trainers. Thanks[/b]

If I were you, I would get a CELTA or DELTA and then become a trainer for the same cert. Try ihworld.com and check their vacancies. No idea what they pay, but they're worldwide. Lot o' options...

Thanks to both of you...but perhaps I should be a little clearer. I already have a Masters in TESOL and have over 15 years experience so I don't wish to pay more money like the CELTA or other in order to be a teacher trainer. But I would like to get into teaching-training teachers.

I am in a similar position to you, in terms of quals and experience. I have checked from time to time into getting into teacher training. Basically, it seems that the jobs require contacts, in most cases. There's no major lack of teacher trainers, in most cases, and so far I've found no place where positions are advertised.

As far as I know, and it is only relevent to CELTA and Trinity, you need to invited by a training centre in order to be trained up. In most cases I know about, this happened only as part of a contract in which you agree to be a trainer on 6 or 7 different courses for that centre over a period of about a year, or whatever it takes. There are also certain selection criteria etc. I don't think it is so easy just to apply for a course in T-training. But best of luck anyway.

A lot of teacher training work is either inhouse or fairly specialized.

Meaning- apply to universities with a lot of teacher training going on, start as a teacher, and you're likely to get involved in teacher training sooner or later.

Or apply for admin/DOS type positions, and you'll probably get the opportunity to do continuing training for inservice teachers.

The best teacher training work, in my opinion, is often on more specialised courses. These are often the only circumstances in which teacher trainers are more or less full-time trainers. (Cert courses like CELTA, Trinity, or SIT TESOL.)

Due to their specialized content, these courses do have a specialized trainer training process- Trainers must be experienced, well-qualified teachers, as it seems you are. They also have to go through specialized training in the course methodology and content, though. For SIT (which I know best, as I'm a trainer and trainer of trainers for their courses) this also has a "licensing" element- all trainers are license by SIT to make sure standards are met.

My employer invested a few thousand in getting me trained up for this process- It's an investment I wouldn't hesitate to make, though. It's paid off many times over in recent years.

Best,
Justin

IH often advertise for teacher trainers ... I think there are two positions on their recruitment page now

I'd say work at an institute that has trains teachers, and work your way up. ASk if you can be taught how to train the teachers. They might even train you for free.
