Hey

I'm considering working in a summer camp this summer but am wary of the long hours/inadequate pay/travel costs... can anyone share their experiences or recommend a camp? Is it worth the trouble?

Thanks Smile

Hard work and slim pickings. You would make more working as a bartender or bus driver.

Try conducting a search on this forum using the term "summer camp", concentrating especially on the UK forum.

You should find plenty of anecdotes from those who, like myself, have been there, done that, got the T-shirt and wondered whether it was totally worth all the aggro!

In my experience, summer work can work depending on your situation - if you want to return to the UK for a short period (especially if work abroad dries up then...) and have nowhere else to stay and work, then summer camps are ideal. Also, as they are very intensive, at most you'll spend very little of your earnings (especially if residential) and if you live abroad where sterling still translates well, then it does make sense.
