I had a London interview for Aeon in 2005 and even then there was a six month interval between being interviewed and leaving for Japan. I can't remember exactly how much notice teachers who are coming to the end of their contract give, but it was about four months if I recall correctly.

Aeon can therefore only estimate how many vacancies there will be and obviously many teachers are choosing to stay on given the current economic climate. The yen is also still very strong against the pound, making Japan even more attractive to British teachers.

It's not uncommon for teachers just to pack their bags and leave at the drop of a hat either.

I gave the full notice required for personal reasons, my circumstances changed a few weeks later but they'd already found my replacement. I was relocated to another school to finish my contract as once a replacement's found it's pretty final. I didn't lose any bonus/plane ticket thanks to the few months I did elsewhere though.

Seems like a lifetime ago Shocked

Well some sort of Forum magic appears to have kicked in as I received a placement offer yesterday. Now to decide if I go for it or not. Hopefully the rest of you got something as well, good luck!

not sure how different offices do it but I received a call from my recruiter that they had a placement and we talked briefly and then she emailed me a bunch of stuff about the city and branch to look over and gave me a week to decide if I was going to accept the offer.

That's how it was for me. Got a call Friday evening, she gave me a load of information about the school and the area and sent an email with more details. Although I've been asked to respond by Monday so I get the feeling they want quick confirmations so that they can pass the offers to others as necessary.

Ah ok, did they give you any idea of when you will be starting? Also, were you at the June interviews or the previous ones? Good to know things are in motion Smile

The position starts on the 8th Jan so it's not too long a wait. I was in the June interviews. Oddly enough, looking at your previous posts I suspect we may have been in the same lesson demo group...

Haha, coincidence! What were your preferences with regard to location (if you don't mind me asking)? I said semi rural/suburban, I guess they are only calling people that match preferences at the moment.

Once my initial naive hopes about strolling straight into Kansai had been dashed, I stopped being specific about the location. I was more concerned about the type of school and the size of the town. In the end I was offered a small town (popn ~170k) which seemed to tick all the boxes.

While we're on the topic of AEON, has anyone ever not been offered a position on their first interview and then invited back for a second interview?

The "second interview" is part of the same process. Only those who get through the first (group) interview, are invited to take pert in the second stage of the interview process (the "second" or "individual" interview). The large majority of those who make it to the second interview get offered a position (when they have any available). Aeon recruiters seem to use the "second interview" as the first stage of the process wherein you will learn to accept criticism of your teaching technique and grow accustomed to taking instruction in the "Aeon method" from your seniors in the cult, I mean company. Smile

My apologies. My post was a little vague.

I'm fully aware of the interview process having already experienced it.

My question is, after not being accepted after your first recruitment weekend, has anyone ever been accepted for a second recruitment attempt a year later?
