I got booted for no work visa. You do need a work visa if you are non EU.

Asked to leave plus a one year ban? That sure sounds like deported to me. Good luck.

Getting deported is much worse. I think it has to do with being able to be let back into the country. I showed my paperwork to a few people and they all said it was not a deportation.

I was offered a position at a summer camp in Poland just after the ban ends. I wrote the Embassy in Washington and am waiting to hear back.

I need to find a job for the fall.

Overstaying carries up to a 10 year ban. 1 year is pretty kind.

I also think that 'deported' means they pay to ship you home...'asked to leave' means you get to pay for your own ticket. Smile

Say no, get put on a plane, get a long ban (deported).

It wasn't worth it. At least they gave me a week to pack and take care of things. In the US I hear they don't care. They grab you and take you to the airport and make you leave.

If you come back, remebemr that you DON'T need a work visa to teach English at an accredited school. That's the key point. Also one which will help you get your residency card. Good luck.

Please define an accredited school!

I know of you work for a school that teaches more then language, for example, a normal school, that is correct.

My school did help with all the paperwork, except, a work permit. They didn't think I needed one.
