I havent been able to find a job in Thailand, so I need to go back to Korea. I know that if I do this, I will lose my security deposit on my apartment.

I really dont want to lose the money but they told me they won't refund it if I leave early.

I suppose I can tell them that I will sublet the apartment to someone else, have them give me a deposit, and then they will have somone living in the apartment who doesnt have a contract.

Do you think this is going to far?

Do you have any other advice for how I can get the security deposit back?

The best way is to hand it on. Put it on one of the boards (ajarn or craigslist) and tell other teachers that you can't stay. U may need to leave the plates/cups "free".

When u have a taker, introduce them to the owner as yr pal, a nice teacher etc.

Thais are very bad in general//at giving back deposits. Even good regular people who give warning find that some is kept for wear and tear, or for bills that will arrive late after you go (even imaginary). I hear a lot of this stuff.

There is no point going to a lawyer. U break the contract and they hate giving deposits anyway!
