I'm writing the LSAT in february and hoping to go to law school starting in September.
From mid-feb/march until mid-August I would like to do some teaching before heading back to school for the first time since 2005.
I think just naturally Japan interests me the most, but I'd be willing to go anywhere really. What is the best option for starting around that time period?
Also while looking for a job is it better to say I can commit for a year, when really it would only be 6 months? What are the repercussions for breaking 1-year agreements?
Wage isn't my biggest concern, while it would be nice to earn a decent amount and save some I would probably be happy enough if I was just living comfortably and having fun and it wasn't costing me money, or I was saving just a little bit.
Any help would be great. Thanks. |

Hi housenuts,
I am in a similar position waiting for graduate school and have been researching a similar timeline. The best possibilities I have come up with are:
Japan- A practical way for a short term contract (3-5 months) is through the Westgate program. They often advertise on the job board here. Some potential for saving and this seems to be a great introduction to the country you mentioned a preference for.
China- It's possible to find university positions for the second semester of the year, starting mid-Feb/early March and lasting into the summer. Pay is relatively low, but so are the hours (12-16). It's likely possible to save a little or break even at worst.
Vietnam- It's hard to find specifics on short term contracts online. From what I've read, it seems like the way to go is to show up and find employment. Hopefully others with more information and experience there can fill us in. Okay financially, but a pleasant tropical environment.
I am sure there are other attractive options out there and I am hoping to be enlightened. Personally, I dont want to start a contract and then break it half way through. Good luck in your job search and thanks for starting the thread.

Westgate if practically the only outfit in Japan that has such short-term contracts.
You may not be qualified for them.
They may not have openings when you want them.
Check. www.westgate.co.jp/
Besides, setup costs in Japan are fairly high, so working here only 6 months may not do better than pay them back, and not give you much chance to actually make money. |
