In Mexico, all workers, including foreign
workers and workers without valid permits,
are entitled to Social Security. The Mexican
Social Security Institute (Instituto Mexicano de
Seguro Social, IMSS) is responsible for providing
several benefits to all insured workers.

A good post, Prof.Gringo.

An additional right that all employees have is to be represented by a Union 'syndicate'

Ask your employer for the contact details. They are legally obliged to provide this information for you.

Concilacion (down in Plaza Tangamanga) are the best people to ask as they are the ones that can actually do something about this kind of thing. Take your contract and explain the situation. I think 3 months is the limit for working without IMSS so you'd have a case.

What if you are contracted by an American company to work for a school in Mexico?

My contract was broken a month ago when they cut the pay.
Who is responsible for the terms f my contract? The school is changing to a Mexican owner.

I'm leaving Hermosillo tomorrow, but I and another teacher are trying to get the U.S. company to take responsibility for breaching the contract.

Best to contact a lawyer, but it sounds like it would be under Mexican law as you were working in Mexico. Same applies to US companies that have Mexican operations. Were you working for another wonderful language school by chance?
