Some places have requested I email them a picture of my degree and the picture page of my passport.

Is there any potential harm to doing this? Degree not so much I guess. But passport contains some extra information that I'm not sure if it's needed. Any harm in blacking out the passport number? Can they really do any sort of identity theft with this information?

thanks

I also have submitted a scanned info of my passport page. It's unlikely that scanned passport page info can harm your identity. You still carry your original passport and without the original document it will be of no use. At least with my UK passport, there is a chip that contains your true identity. Not sure about other passports.

but your concern is very legitimate and I'd like to hear from others about this.

I have always emailed scans of my passport. I figure if someone really wants to steal my identiy, even if I black out parts, they could hack into my computer and get the info.

Which countries are you guys dealing with? I am trying to go to Costa Rica and have had no such luck using the internet for job employment. Any suggestions?

For Latin America, in general, it's very hard to get a job beforehand. High value is placed on face to face interviews. Mexico seems to be the exception, possibly because they actually get you work visas.

For CR, you'll probably be working illegally. BUT, if you were to just show up and knock on doors, you'd probably have a full schedule within a couple of weeks.

Illegal TEFL teachers abound in Latin America, even I worked on a tourist visa for two months until I got my visa. But, good news is, you're not really working, you are a volunteer and get a stipend Smile
