Wow.

WOW.

This all sounds incredible. I'm definitely going to be doing some traveling before Graduate School.

What would the price difference be if one stayed in hotels/hostels only occasionally, and stayed in a tent the other nights?

The idea of lazing around in a hammock, reading a book and sleeping under the stars on an asian beach, all for only 200-300 USD/month is just incredible.

Would India and China also be a super-cheap Asian destination?

During my winter vacation (three months) from a Korean university back in '02, I stayed in a Bangkok serviced apartment. It wasn't anything fancy but was near the subway and cost only $200 a month. From there, I took various trips throughout SE Asia. I wouldn't think it would be much more expensive now.

Im looking for a place thats very inexpensive, where I can just laze about, preferably on a beach or near one, where I can just read/write and take lots of good pictures; where it's not too crowded and I won't be bothered too much.

Anyone know of such a utopia in Thailand, Malaysia or Indonesia?

If I stay in one of these inexpensive guesthouses, will there be an electrical socket in the room? Because I want to read ebooks, listen to audiobooks and charge up my camera and camcorder while I'm there.

If theres not, theres always some battery-operated chargers as solutions. Most laptops even have such things but its not very economical.

Many beaches in the RP are very cheap. $300 a month to layabout in a hammock and drink beer. Sounds good from the cold inner northern reaches of China!
