Teachers leaving KSA might want to get a police clearance from the authorities before leaving here. Certainly in Britain if you are teaching or working in any way with children you need to prove that you have a clean slate. That includes time spent in foreign jurisdictions. I am pretty sure similar rules exist in other countries.

Get it before you leave. Do not wait until you are outside KSA and have that extra bureaucratic hurdle.

Scot47 do you think that the Saudi authorities are capable of doing a police clearance letter/form? When I was there 1979 to 1984 the police were not capable of doing anything, but maybe things have changed?

They most certainly are. I know several people who have done it. They are also cheaper than their colleagues in the United Kingdom.

The cost - and the hassle - in KSA comes when you have to get the documents apostilled and verified at the Embassy of Her Britannic Majesty.

Many things have changes in KSA since 1984. The Ministry of the Interior has a centralised database utilising your Iqama Number to identify you. Despotism has its benefits.

I refer to your comment that other countries besides the UK probably have the rule that teachers returning from overseas must prove with a police report that they've been behaving themselves. Not in the U.S.

Hey SnB... how about if they were applying to teach elementary school? I thought criminal checks were the norm now.

Scot47 thank you for the information at least something has improved a little, but the big question is would it recognized in the real world? It is ok to say "The Ministry of the Interior has a centralized database utilizing your Iqama Number to identify you" ,but say you are there on one of those 90 visas you don�t get an Iqama, so they can't trace you.

The police clearance (criminal background check) applies only to those with iqamas.

If you are working illegally on a business visa you will not be able to do this.

Another reason not to follow the advice of the misguided who think it is ok to work on a business visa.

There are a helluva lot of us here on illegal visas working illegally so how would we go about getting a criminal records check?

Well................you could try going to see the police and explain,"I am working here illegally, I wonder if................................"

And wait for the cell door to bang behind you.

VS--true, I don't have any elementary or secondary school background (other than having been a pupil--ha ha), but I suspect any school district background check would be limited to the last local jurisdiction in which the applicant worked or lived in the U.S. From overseas I imagine they'd require only reference letters.
