Hey, I'm going to teach English abroad and am down to selecting between Spain and Thailand (yes, I know both are extremely different.) I'm looking at taking the CELTA at IH Bangkok in January, and I'm just wondering what my chances would be of landing a job in February, since I know starting work then doesn't correspond well with the Thai education system. Would I have a good shot of landing a gig at a private language school then?

You would probably get somethg, but there are generally less jobs around than the "golden time" of a few years back.

The language schools tend to work you hard if u r on a fixed salary (say 35,000b). They want to get a lot from you if they have to pay you a set amount. P-t is paid by the hour, though.

In a way, your inexperience don't help. You will do the CELTA in January and then look for a job the following week. Do u have a degree or any other teaching exp?
Sure, everyone needs to start somewhere, but if a guy with a degree and 2 yrs experience comes along, he will get the job. The same will happen in Spain.

Good luck

Eddy

I have a B.A. from a school in the states (I'm an American.) I don't have any real teaching experience, I've done some tutoring but I doubt that means anything in this circumstance. Thanks for the info though.

What school did you graduate from? Just curious. I went to the U of A (University of Arkansas) It would be awesome to collaborate with someone of a similar goal.
