1. Are there any reasonably reliable ways to ensure that you get one of the preferred 3 locations you put down on the Nova application?
2. Once you accept an offer from Nova, how long is it usually before you depart for Japan? |

The larger the city, the more likely you will get it as the turn over and need is higher.
The more flexible you are about your placement is better.
I got Osaka, which I asked for. To be honest, I got everything I asked for when I moved to Japan.
I was offered the job in June and left in August. I had to finish my school year and sort other things out (Visa, passport, house etc). I would say at least a month after, if not longer, depending on how many things you need to sort out. |

I recently interviewed with NOVA (still waiting to hear whether or not I was accepted!) and they told me in the interview the one way to guarantee placement was to choose to work in the Multi Media Center which is located in Osaka. So if that's where you want to be, you can get there. They also told us that there is about a 3 month waiting list to get into Okinawa. |

I was offered a position for Nova, starting in August. They requested that all my paperwork (visa, contract, etc.) be sent in by June 7th. So figure about two months. |

So Nova gives you 3 choices. Interesting. I'm still new at this, still figuring it all out. Didn't know about that. Anybody got a sense of the demand for the midsize southern cities? Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Kobe, Kyoto, and Matsuyama seem to be my top choices, based on my research so far. Maybe Nagoya. I'm a little concerned about the cost of Osaka... but then, everything in Japan's so expensive... |
