New to forum. Quick explanation. Quick question.
Thinking of moving from China (ESL 5 years - 1 1/2 - teacher, 2 1/2 teacher trainer/foreigner manager, 1 - at a university) to Thailand
35 years old American.
Don't need to often see foreigners.
Don't need western food.
Don't need movie theaters and such (been to 1 in 5 years).
Don't mind bargaining for everything.
Do need water, electricity, and air-con.
Do need decent air and proximity to a EITHER a decent beach/diving/scuba or mountain/nature/hiking.
Do need a decent hospital (should be able to trust them with stitches if I cut my foot sort of thing)
Would like to make more than I spend (I can live cheaper than the average foreigner, but never as cheap as a native)
Should have about 100,000 RMB, uh, 480,000 Baht in the bank to
catch me if I fall.
Just need a recommendation for a city.
I've researched many but on site advice is invaluable. Also, most of these forums focus on giving advice to teachers who have a hard time not eating pizza or steak or hitting the bar scene on a regular basis, or are too thick to take a decent interview and find a good job and scrape the penny jar at the end of each month (which I also did my first couple of years in China).
Anyway.
Thanks.
Ok, maybe the explanation wasn't too quick. |

I think you should apply for a teaching job in the BIG Mango, just remember not to spend all your Baht 480,000 savings on papayas because you will go bananas! |

Based on what the OP has said about him/herself, Bangkok would not be the best option. As he/she has savings and is able to live without modern conveniences, he/she has many more options.
Why not try some other cities like:
Kanchanaburi, Chantaburi, Petchaburi, Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen or Korat, Trad, Trang, Sri Racha/Chonburi area, Sukothai, Lampang or Lamphun, Hat Yai or other areas in the south (Surat THani, Nakhon Si Tham).
Bangkok will offer the best salaries by far though. Only problem is that you have to live in Bangkok.
Best of luck. |
