Have any of you taught one-on-one/small groups in your native countries (or that matter, any Western nation) and if so, how much do/did you charge per lesson?

I'm considering advertising for private students upon my return to the UK to supplement my savings whilst I look for something more stable, but I have no idea how much the going rate is for classes or how many students I'll realistically be able to find. If any of you have experiences you could share then I'd be extremely grateful.

Thanks a lot!

'Western nations' is far too large. For example, I live in the Netherlands and charge up to 60 euro per hour, but I highly doubt that's applicable to the UK (or Spain, Italy, France, or Canada, for that matter).

I can tell you that 15 years ago when I took some private language lessons myself in the USA, a classmate and I each paid $20 per hour for once a week lessons.

In Vancouver, BC, Canada, the going rate is around $25-35/hour for people with some experience, TESL certificate, and degree. Provincially qualified teachers usually charge $35-40/hour.

Yes, "Western nations" is much too vague. A house in Winnipeg can cost $150,000, whereas the same house in Vancouver can cost $800,000 Shocked Too many variables, at least in this vast country Razz
