I wanted to ask this question on the previous thread, but again it was locked. After reading the previous posts, something occurred to me. I discussed the situation with my mother and she told me that from what I read it sounds like the school is closing. She works for the department of education. She told me that when a university president is resigns from a university that it is a good chance that the school may be closing. However it previous threads I noticed people saying that each year the salary that is advertised gets lower and lower. What is going on? Are these people being honest with the teachers that work there? What do you guys think?

No Cleopatra not in Riyadh, I should have clarified that. But she has extensive experience in these areas so she advised me to fully check out any school, before hopping on a plane.

If every college/university in the Gulf that fired a Dean was closing... there wouldn't be any places to be hired by... Laughing

If her experience is in the US... there will be no relevance to her experience and what happens in the Gulf.

No they have not closed the school yet. The president has left however. No one knows the future of the school. The student enrollment has declined, and the program is definately loosing money. Many of us are only teaching one class this term because there aren't enough students. The director on the woman's side said that we have nothing to worry about, but no one believes her. They have always told us what we want to hear, not what we really need to know. Anyone with common sense knows that when an organization starts taking away benefits that they used to offer, knows that the organization is in danger of loosing money. They are cutting things like paying for family visas, and airfare. They are also constructing new housing right next to the school. I guess they plan to kick us out of the DQ and Al-Khadeer and have us all live on top of each other right by the school. We will see!!!

Interesting..... Interlink are advertising for two (why only two?) teachers to start work in September 2010. This would seem to contradict suspicions that Interlink might be on their way out because of rumours that the Dean is leaving. Looks like they're here to stay:

Or it could be that they are advertising and interviewing just in case they have an exodus of teachers. At this point, they certainly don't need teachers.

There is actually nothing to back up the rumor that they are closing - which I believe started as pure speculation here on this thread. I've never heard of any Gulf university closing because of the departure of a Dean. There are just as often improvements at a place when that happens. Most of the people that I have communicated with think that Interlink is the problem... and it appears that their contract has been renewed. But, who knows for how long...

Well the only latest news is that a teacher went AWOL!!!! She just up and left without telling anyone. People are speculating that she had another job in another part of the Gulf maybe the UAE. She had to have a multiple entry visa to do that and must have had the entire thing planned out. I commend her because the way management was treating her it was not very fair. She was teaching classes with too many students, while other teachers had only one class. Actually there are not enough students to give all the new female teachers two classes, but there were other factors to her sudden disappearance.

All I know is that the school is cutting back on their expenses. They are not paying for family visas anymore, at least those coming under a new contract.
The rumor about the school closing came from people thinking that because the President of the University left, that meant the end of the SILC relationship with him and the President of SILC. The management told us that it is a partnership, that is not contingent on the President of the school being there or not. That is when people started to get worried about the school closing and our jobs being at stake.

The truth is that the school is cutting back on expenses. They are currently constructing housing adjacent to the school, which they claim will be ready next school year. Who knows, but that is not a rumor.

Arab News on 19 January had a front-page story saying that the Government is going to pay 50 percent of fees at private universities, like Al Yamamah and PMU.

I think I have heard part of this story... but I must say... this woman sounds a bit... flaky? How many times has she been married? I think she is trying to surpass Liz Taylor. Laughing
