Hi, I am a single middle aged Canadian woman with an M.Ed in elementary education. I have three years of teaching experience in S.E. Asia and I would now like to get a teaching position in Dubai. After reading some of the posts here I am a little apprehensive about finding a reputable recruiter. I would really appreciate it if someone could suggest or recommend a reputable recruiter(s) for me. Right now I am considering Teach Away. Thanks |

Most of us here consider "reputable recruiter" to be an oxymoron...
but, TeachAway seems to be OK for the jobs in elementary. I don't recall seeing any complaints here. I believe that there is a Facebook page for the project.

Hi B4.
Most of the posters here will tell you what VS just did. Don't go through a recruiter.
All of the reputible schools have their information available online, including job vacancies. It does take some extra work on your part to track them down, but it is worth it. Contact the schools you are interested in directly and apply for positions.
With an M ed and three years in primary education you are also qualified to teach the education classes at the tertiary level so check out ECAE, HCT and the other universities which offer teacher training programs. |

I second that emotion. Go for the universities and get paid $42,000 or so per annum to start tax-free plus free housing etc...as opposed to half that amount at the elementary schools. Enjoy the college or university work environment and...avoid Egyptian elementary school management. |

Hey SnB... many of the teachaway positions pay very well. Lots of people have received as high or higher than university pay.
Ms b4... you didn't mention whether you have a Canadian certificate/license to teach K-12. I believe that is required by Teachaway... don't know if an MA will substitute for it.

Thanks, VS--news to me. Up to now I'd only seen posts about grade school jobs paying 7K a month. |

This project is paying VERY well... the salaries are as high or higher than university and the benefits are close to equal. (smaller furniture allowance) They are also not paying any family benefits, so it is only really for singles or those with no kids.
It is part of the total revamp of the Emirati school system from Kindergarten up. (this year I think it was mostly K-3) You weren't around when it was being discussed here. They are putting certified Western teachers at all levels, while also trying to upgrade current teachers, with the goal of a more bi-lingual system. If it works, it will do away with Foundations programs at university level... eventually... insha'Allah...
