| I've started to see a few more places saying they require a TEFL or prefer applicants have one, never saw much of that in my stay here. But, yes, I can understand how that must feel especially if you have a master degree. |

I am sympathetic. But is your masters degree in a relevant field? I did a masters in applied linguistics, and then found that someone with a TEFL certificate of dubious value (and quite possibly fake) was just as employable and the pay differential negligible.

| zipper, I have seen more jobs wanting applicants to have a TEFL, so I think you are right that things are beginning to change. Also, let's not forget that the majority of these schools don't care too much about how well you can teach. This isn't to say that they don't want good and hard working teachers, but all the schools I've worked at placed much more importance on show and tell events that increased the chance of new students signing up and paying deposits. |

I've found from dealing with recruiters in the past that they rarely if ever actually read what you send them. I mean whenever we sent our letters of reference and detailed job history they'd still always ask "Where have you worked?", "How long have you worked in Taiwan?""Do you have a B.A?" etc, etc....
Read my information it's all in there and that's why I sent it to you...

Actually I believe that most schools in Taiwan would put your resume in the bin if you have an M.A. in Education or TESOL. You will be seen as someone potential hard to work with and unhappy with the set curriculum. |

Yes, when I used to look for jobs in Taiwan I would be angry. One of the first questions they would ask is, "Do you have any experience teaching children?". That actually had my resume in from of them when they asked that question and I had emailed them that resume previously. |

| Exactly - they ask you to send them all this info, never bother to read it and then ask you by e-mail to provide them with all the info you've already sent... |

I've seen the exact opposite comments as well. People thinking a cram school would jump at the opportunity to pay someone with an MA only 600NT an hour. |

Do you mean by the bosses or administrators at your jobs?
Other than an international school I can't really see that someone with an M.A. in Education would fit in. |

I thought you needed to be a certified teacher to work in the public schools? I don't think an MA in TESOL would make this possible, but I don't and have never taught at schools so I don't know.
