Why would anyone post negative comments about an employer on an internet forum if it could possibly result in legal action?

I don't think a Taiwanese court would give a mouse's arse about what a foreigner writes (in English) on an all English website.

Also, it would technically be libel instead of slander--since this is a written form.

However, if what the person wrote is true, then it would be hard to accuse and/or convict the person of libel. Also, if someone used an internet cafe to post, then there's no way to trace who actually typed the words on the keyboard and hit the 'enter' key.

If I got sued for something like this, I'd be filing a countersuit within 8 minutes of finding out that I was about to be sued.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer. If you are in need of legal advice, you should seek the assistance of a competent professional. (How's that for some 'legalese'?) Smile

That's kind of what I was thinking too - just have seen a few of these types of thread around the boards and wondered if people might be exposing themselves to possible legal action by doing so.

Truth isn't enough to overcome libel in some cases. If the publication was malicious in its use of information, libel suit can take a paper to the cleaners. This usually occurs on stories about prominent small-town citizens who aren't in office doing not-so-nice things that are legal, but shameful. (i.e., Bob Collins, who owns 18 car dealerships in the tri-county Bumblefart Area, is a drunk.)

This is still a grey area and these matters are usually taken care of in the publisher's office with the lawyers present and a ton of free advertising being dangled in front of the P.O.'d party.
