Hi

I'm a qualified, experienced EFL teacher, currently working in Poland. As I'm also an aspiring writer, I've decided to spend between three and six months in India, splitting my time between a strict daily regime of creative writing, followed by perhaps some voluntary work (eg teaching) and / or something more spiritual eg a long meditation course.

Any ideas as to a location in India, (religious / spiritual) voluntary organisations which might suit this ideal itinerary? I would really be very grateful for any ideas to help me narrow down such a large field.

Thanks in advance
John

Dharamsala, the home of the Tibetan govt. in exile, and Pune, home of the OSHO retreat are two popular spiritual places. There are many volunteer ops in the former, and tons of schools in the later that would be happy to take you up on your offer to volunteer. These opportunities are best sought on the ground by going directly to places of interest. I recommend finding an area of India that you think might suit you and start from there. A decent guidebook might help in this matter. There is another online forum, with the words 'India' and 'Mike' in the name, which might be useful to you as well. It's not strictly ESL oriented, and it is much more active that this one. Good luck.
