Well, yet another great, Dr. Samuel Johnson, is said to have defined a cigarette as ' a cylindrical thing with fire at one end and a fool at the other'. Hope it does not apply to cigars by analogy Smile .

My experience would say that it most definitely does...

Though off the topic, elsewhere, the Doctor is also attributed with: "oats: a grain eaten by horses in England and by men in Scotland'. Shocked
One should condone the racist undertone, which I am sure he didn't mean (considering his benign nature), and, he having no illusions about his own tribe: 'lexicographer: a harmless drudge'.

I am not sure that cigarettes were around when Dr Johnson was writing. I think not.

I think the north Jersey mafia should teach EFL classes in Saudi. Learning would take place. Or else.

You COULD be true.
By 1830, the cigarette had crossed into France, where it received the name cigarette; and in 1845, the French state tobacco monopoly began manufacturing them.[7]-Wiki
It did exist in its present form but was given its name later. Let's see, Dr. Johnson published the Dictionary in 1755 so he couldn't have used the term. But that's how I heard it.

007, ...and multitudes of such 'pipers' throng every street cafe in the evenings and sit there long past midnight, quoting the Scripture to one another? Very Happy

Aw, come on, Gauloises aren't that bad. Not as tough as Marlboro Reds, anyway. And a cigar like that would make me want to crawl back into bed. Sad

Marlboros have been the world's #1 coffin nail for decades, and they could be used as cash in Napoli when I was there (4 cartons could be bartered for lots of things). Certainly not the case with those Gauloise things. They are clearly offensive. Yes, I can make a value judgement here. Offensive cigarettes![/quote]

I will be at Qassim Univer. on 24 Sept. 2009

If you are looking for the capital of conservative Islam, then the nearby province of Hail is it. This is the home grounds for the Wahabbes.

Do what I do, travel to places, instead of siting about bored. First holiday we get, I will be traveling to Cyprus. Also the Saudi rail system is great for weekend visits.

So, how are things at Qassim?

The Cat of Brass never made it to Qassim. Maybe the Selukis of Copper got him en route.
