Hi, I'd like to be able to comment on my work site in the UAE, but first I need some feedback on whether I can do so here with anonymity.

They can trace ISP's, but depends on how much trouble you're going to stir up; the powers that be in the UAE gonna wanna get you? Seriously, though, it would be very unlikely that anybody's going to want to track you down for anything you say on here.

As they say in the Middle East, "The walls of the houses have ears and all the ears listen and have mouths". You can be found.....so use your best judgement in deciding how responsibile you want to be for what you say.

A certain degree of paranoia is warranted. Speech is only free til someone asks you to pay. How is your wasta...the currency of freedom?

I agree. Don't include any background information about yourself when you post. (I'm in Oman, and I rarely even browse that forum, much less post anything, because of the anonymity factor.)

When I was in KSA and the UAE, I was careful to avoid Dave's like the plague while at work, but at home I would post all sorts of inflammatory stuff, and I never had a problem. If you are really paranoid, why not send encrypted emails to a trusted friend back home to post to the forum for you?

it sounds as if the job might not be something to write home about (figuratively). if so, then you could also wait till your contract is up, and you may have left the country, then you can write whatever you want without holding back too much.

There is another Mid East Arabic saying which translates into some thing like, "We are all free, do what you want just don't make too much noise for anyone"

And literally. Do you really need this job that bad?
