Barca are a shower of shite and are as much of a two man team as Madrid are. You're going to see them fail to qualify for the knockout stages of the CL tonight and "faltan 5 das" |
Ahem... *flips the page of this morning's Mundo Deportivo*
Which two men are you referring to? Messi and Ibra? Xavi and Iniesta? Piqu and Alves? You line up Bara and RM and man for man Bara has them beat. Except for Casillas.
As far as the music thing goes, I'm actually kind of psyched because some friends of mine are coming to do a show in BCN tomorrow. They're great--which is why I'm expecting that the Barcelona music-listening public is going to "pasar olmpicamente". |

They played well last night. I hate to admit it but they are good. I now fear Sunday.
Still, maybe xavi will get gulf war syndrome or something and Drenthe will score a hat trick to make everything sweeet. |

There is no country with a greater sense of nationakl identity than Ireland. But they don't force children to go to Irish speaking schools. . |
When I was a kid I had 4 hours of Irish grammar a day. And then Maths and English through English and learning off prayers in Irish without being told what they meant.
Believe me going to an Irish speaking school and having no grammar lesson but being fluent in Irish in a year instead of B1 after 15 years would have been a much better option.
There is an old Irish proverb that says "You take a way a countries language you take away its soul."
I agree with this 100%, you say you like Barcelona, but it wouldn't be the same place if you changed the people.
There's a similar saying in Czech "If you learn a new language you get a new soul." Maybe you should try it with Catalan |

The thing about coming here to teach is that you must be aware it will be extremely difficult. I came with 2500 in January and I spent it rapidly.
Do you mean it is easier to start in Sept/Oct ? |

I havent popped my head into Daves in a long long time...I seem to recall somebody who was a fan of one football team saying something about a certain other football team getting booted out of the Champions...but gosh, I can't remember which team he was referring to. Funny how that is.
Im just looking forward to not hearing about "la dcima" anymore this year. |

What do you think? - please add to this list...
Madrid: pro's...
Bigger market for teachers
Cheaper rent (slightly), general cost of living a bit lower
Easier for Americans to find work
Central (geographic) location in Spain
Sunnier, more stable weather
Easier to learn Castellano Spanish
Friendlier people (in bars, parties etc.)
Less expensive than Barcelona (or so I believe)
Barcelona: pro's...
The beach (major pro!)
Better conditions for long term teachers: some schools even pay over summer
Culture: much more art, design, events etc.
Mountains just up the road
Bicycle culture (and skate and surf too)
Close to France for trips and skiing in Pyrennees
More loyal people, once you finally get to know them
Milder weather in winter
Cosmopolitan, international city
