Hi,

A job has come up at HCT which is extremely similar to the one I applied for, got interviewed for, passed the interview for, but no offer came (as of yet, the interview was 5 months ago!, so you never know) --- do I need to apply/reapply to this position?

Or as I am in the "pool" (because I passed the interview first time round) will I get short-listed / recommended for this position?? The job has the same title as the one I applied to, but has one or two small differences in the roles/responsibilities......

Do I click that APPLY button or not?! Smile

This is for a co-ordinator role by the way.

cheers,

From what (little) I know, HCT do not let you apply for the same job within a 6 month period.

On a side note, do they have a 'previous applicants need not apply' policy?

Working for HCT, in my very humble experience, is generally hell..under any circumstances.

Does that not depend on which city and college you end up in?

Hi,

The kind folk at HCT HR have (independantely) contacted me now about this position - suggesting that I should apply for this position as it is extremely similair to the original job I applied to/got interview for in June/October 2009. They alluded that I should be automatically shortlisted for interview - is this normal when you are sat in the 'pool' - ie. have to go through an interview again even though I "passed" the interview first time round?

Obviously, I need to contempate whether I should re-apply for this as seeing bad press from this college is obviously not good when considering a move many miles away from 'home' (although that bit is the exciting bit!)

ADWC - is it really that bad? How bad is bad? My current position is in an environment that could be considered to be very volatile, very top heavy management style, meeting orientated, colleague pressures etc (but pretty safe in terms of job security / benefits etc etc).......so is it any worse than this?

cheers,

There is a great deal of unhappiness at some of the branches (ADW right now holding the lead position), but this has been a constant in the system. Your description of your current job matches the HCT system pretty well Laughing so if HCT gives a jump in wages or just a new experience for a few years, I'd go for it. I expect the requirement for another interview is just because it is a slightly different job. (rules are not governed by logic... that is rule one)

I have found that it is the longer term teachers who are the most unhappy. The new teachers that I have PMed with here are more content with things. One doesn't pine for the "good old days" if one wasn't there. As always, expectations are the key... if one isn't expecting nirvana and can keep one's head down, it will probably be fine for a contract or two. IIRC, you are not in TEFL? Or do I have you confused with another poster. Content teachers have always had an easier time in these Gulf institutions.

Hmmm.... Looks like I now have an interview for this position (at ADWC).

Thanks to all that have replied on and have private messaged me!

I now have a decision to make - do I go for the interview? Or do I just leave this one well alone.

If I get it a few years in Abu Dhabi sounds great - but I dont want to spoil what I have got now.....(bringing my wife and 3 year old son across to that side of the world to have me moaning about my job is probably not a good idea...)

This is presuming I got the job of course! Smile

If you decide not to take the job... and this one is a tough decision... I would make it clear to them that as much as you would like to have the opportunity to teach in this system and in the UAE, the negative press on the net and directly from people currently working at this branch has convinced you that you should pass at this time.

You might want to just wait a few years and apply again.

Something to be aware of with HCT. There are many folks in HR or positions of power who have long memories and have NO PROBLEM blacklisting you for future employment.

So make sure that if you pass on the position you have a good reason. And whatever you do, do not let them know you turned them down due to davesesl.

The rumor mill has it that anyone who posts on Daves before being hired at HCT is blacklisted from future employment. And I don't doubt it. I have heard of several folks who were posting about HCT from inside information who have not been able to get a single interview with them since.

Don't worry too much about turning down a position at HTC. I did that very thing many years back, and when I reapplied a few years later, I was offered an interview. The beast does not have such a long memory, after all!

The important thing to bear in mind is that you'll need to steer very wide of ADWC, and for very good reasons. Teachers are desperate to leave the place, so only a fool would wish to work there. And if you reapply again in a year or so, most of the dorks in HR will have left by then, I'm sure.

From what I hear the problems go all the way to the top of the HCT hierarchy. Not every person in management is bad, but the problem is wide and high enough up that it affects everyone.

I also know people who turned down jobs at problem branches in the past and were hired within the next year or two at other branches. More rumor mill paranoia, but that too is par for the course. Laughing That said, I would make darn sure that I wasn't recognizable on here if I worked there or wanted to work there.
