One would hope for such a scenario, and Chinese law may actually allow for this, but don't count on it happening. I have experienced the flip side to this story. |

The FEC is issued by the State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs (SAFEA). The PSB demand a copy of the FEC only as proof that the RP applicant meets the minimum requirements of qualification necessary for being a FT in China. It is certainly not issued by the PSB. |

The question that the OP posed was not one related to keeping his job, it was related to the host institution hiring him. I take that as meaning giving him employment when he arrives in China.
Mr Ed gave an extreme example of when it may not happen but, generally speaking, once you have an invitation letter and, subsequently, a 'z' visa, then you can take it as a clear indication that the host institution will hire you.
As for losing a teaching position at a Chinese university, yes it does happen but it is not that common.
The expectations of the FT are not high in most cases. The Chinese do not look (or pay) for exceptional people to fill FT teaching posts and will often not even take you seriously. They will just give you a timetable and leave you to get on with the job. In many cases, the only assessment of your teaching ability will be feedback from the students themselves. If they like you, you will get by as a university FT hence the "dancing monkey" tag. |

| I PM'd the OP and asked him if the school paid for his Z visa, he said they did not, he had to pay for it. I thought that was a bad sign. |

| I also wanted to mention that this may all be moot as far as trying to help the OP. I noticed in an earlier post that he made a "personal observation" about another poster and he hasn't been on the site since and he didn't respond to my second PM. |

| The employee usually pays for the Z visa in his home country and is re-imbursed after arrival at school. It's not really reasonable to expect an employer to wire money into someones account in another country to pay for a visa, especially when it's not that expensive. If an employee asked me to do that I'd probably end the negotiations straight away. It would smell of a desperado. |

| No, I pay. They pay for the physical. Which is not normal practice, but who knows. |
This was his reply to me when I asked him if they paid for his visa. Sounds to me like he won't get reimbursed, but it's open to interpretation, I suppose. |
