| Chris, I'm sure you know that if you moved out of China you could get a better salaried position with your MA. |

Of course, I know that only too well, but one university I went to for an interview last year insisted that, notwithstanding the fact that I have both an MA and an M.Ed., I just had to have the DELTA or its equivalent, the Trinity Diploma in TESOL. Theirs was an absolutely snobbish attitude, for which I have never quite forgiven them.
Yet, again and again, I have seen advertisements by UK universities that want people to have a DELTA even for a front-line classroom teaching job. The MA appears to be not enough for them, since the DELTA, not the MA, involves undertaking supervised, assessed teaching practice. So long as this attitude pervades the TEFL industry in the UK (or at the very least within the UK tertiary education sector), it seems that I may have to just do this DELTA/Trinity Diploma.
Indeed, the Diploma is actually incorporated into some MA TEFL/TESOL-oriented degrees like that offered by Sheffield Hallam University at its TESOL Centre. If I could gain some credits for my Open University study at postgraduate level, I might consider doing it. |

I will be a lifer in TESOL. I have earned an MA in TESOL and am looking to enter a doctoral program in Second Language Studies or Applied Linguistics in a few years.
TESOL for the long haul?
For me, yep.
