Do you think I'm too late to secure a teaching job commencing in April? I've only interviewed with Heart English School which was two weeks ago and they still haven't got back to me. I've probably completed another 10 applications and haven't heard back from most of these companies as well so I'm thinking about heading over to Japan for the first two weeks in April. What do you think my chances are of landing a job in those two weeks? I have a CELTA and no formal teaching experience.
Thanks for your comments!

I wouldn't recommend coming then. Last minute changes in personnel are usually bad signs, and that's what you'd essentially be facing after the first of the month.

From now till then, it's prime time, so be patient.

What did Heart English school tell you? If its been two weeks and you've heard nothing, then you could give them a call. It's entirely possible that they've been shopping your resume around to school boards etc and just haven't heard back from them. Sometimes, BoEs etc don't really make a decision until the very last second (and that can have dire consequences for teachers- both part-time Japanese teachers AND foreign teachers). But yeah, I agree with Glenski, I wouldn't just show up if I were you.

Thanks Glenski/Gambate!

I just received a response from Heart:

"Regarding your recent application and interview, we have decided as a section that we cannot select your for one of our upcoming positions. FOr this school year we had to reject even good, qualified candidates as we have had more applications than usual and more current ALTs plan to continue in the new school year."

I thought Heart was one of the easier places to get employment? I guess I'll keep trying with the other schools then. I haven't received many responses recently which is why I was asking if they'd already stopped recruiting for April...i thought i'd missed the cut but I'll take your word for it Glenski and keep perservering.

Cheers all

yes, if you don't have experience, it might be difficult in the current climate (coming so late)
