I cant seem to see any Libya Oil jobs advertised anywhere and the companies i have emailed dont reply. Am I doing something wrong? Is there no recruitment at the moment, im actually probably looking post MA anyway for an Oil gig and I really need some sort of rotational contract as im family constrained etc......The Sisyphus

Try Smart Recruitment Specialists, Harley Street London, contact May Dean. Don't do a rotation for less than 30,000 GBP per annum and I wouldn't touch one longer than 6 on 3 off.
There are some truly disgraceful oofers out here from the likes of Bell, IH and all that mob.
Once you get to Trip, there's loads of private work....tonnes of it....especially for PET and IELTS, the latter commanding a real premium.

What are the general required credentials for the Libyan oil jobs: a BA and CELTA + a year experience? Can people from the US work there, or is it more of a European union/British thing?

Does not matter. You will not get a job as you are a 4 weeker and with only one years experience. Drop the fantasy that you are going to get a well paid job with a total investment of 4 weeks.

I'm also thinking about applying for oil rig jobs in either Libya or Equatorial Guinea in 2011. By this time I'll have (hopefully) a DELTA (with a specialism in Exam Classes) and 7 years experience (1 year post DELTA).

Unfortunately, I don't have a First or Bachelors Degree.

Are these qualifications/experience enough, or is a first degree a Libyan government requirement to issue work visas?

I've been looking around and I've seen positions with the rotation 28on:28off, which sounds great; and I've seen 42on:21off, which doesn't sound so great.

What rotation is more likely?

Rotational jobs are tough that is why they give you time off. If it was bearable they would save money and do it the normal way. It is not great and you are falling into the fantasy that you can get a great job with loads of money without a degree. Hell it is near impossible to do that with a degree yet you will be competing with all those with degrees.

I'm on a rotation, everyone has a degree....at least!!

Rotations can be pleasant. I enjoy my life, the money is good and I have loads of hols.

Equatorial Guinea is the centre of world malaria. Taking pills is actually part of your contract. Marathon oil interviewed me and loads of my male mates about 2 years ago and none of us received an offer. I know 2 women who the fat bloke and his side kick employed, both had little experience... but one had long legs. Fluor and Wood Group were recruiting for them.

I'm on a 42/21 and probably earn a bit more than the Eq Guinea job pays as I get paid 12 months a year and am not tax resident. I also won't get malaria in Libya. 28/28 would be heaven, but I wouldn't save and would become UK tax resident/Europe tax resident.

Rotations are for people who are self-reliant inside and outside work. The misanthrope, penny pinching, back stabbing, prima donna a-holes soon get found out on a gas plant in the Sahara.

Is it possible to get a rotational job with BA + CELTA and 10 years experience (not Middle East)?

And if so, what is the recruitment timescale?

Any advice much appreciated!
