Quite where VS has seen me recently looking for roles I'm not sure. I did put the feelers out about HAIL as again I'd been approached by them. At the moment I have a fair bit on my plate which I'm more than happy with for the time being.

You had two posts here in January, 2010, asking about jobs in Hail. (not sure what you mean by 'roles' Laughing) That suggested to me that you had not gone to ARAMCO.

As Scot says... these approaches are very unusual... and does ring alarm bells.

I still think it is a scam. A few days ago I was contacted by a former colleague who had been targetted in this way. Promise of a job at Aramco at US$14,000 a month.

Be sure that they will lead you on and then at some point ask for a "visa facilitation fee" or similar which will then end up in a bank in Nigeria.

Here is the edited text of that e-mail -

"From: ***@*******.net
To: *****@******.net
Subject: Saudi Arabia Teaching position.
Date: Tue, 23 Feb 2010 14:31:29 +0000

Dear Saudi teaching candidates,

Many thanks for your details. I would like to put you forward for the role.

The client is Aramco and they are looking to interview at some stage over the next 6 weeks in London, Houston, San Francisco and Dublin. Would it be plausible for you to be able to attend any of these sites?

Before I put your CV forward could you please indicate what your salary expectations would be for a 12 month contract role (3months on and 2 weeks off) and also what your previous remuneration package was.

Aramco are looking to fill around 22 senior English teacher roles and the packages are up to 12kUS a month tax free, although you would be expected to cover your own accommodation costs from this.

If any further information is required please drop me an email, and I will do my best to answer your questions.

Best regards

Like their expat recruitment is trawling through monster.com and then is blown away by the staggering skills and experience of some teacher. Also the slightly odd use of the present continuous and `monster`

No one has accused you of anything since you explained yourself at the beginning of this thread. What we are highly suspicious of is not you, but this offer. We are merely trying to make sure that neither you nor anyone else gets screwed by the increasing number of scammers who are getting very creative. They leach off legitimate websites.

2 posts in a row? Does that make me a spammer?

BUT... I just found this on the website that is on that ad above:

E-mail fraud schemes are currently circulating on the Internet where fraudsters use Saudi Aramco's name (often in connection with noteworthy events) to solicit job applications or contract proposals, and require the victims to pay job-application or other processing fees. Sometimes, the scams take the form of telephone calls rather than e-mails. Certain versions of this scam are very sophisticated. Occasionally, a scammer will send a fake check for a large amount of money to the victim to cover the "processing fees." The scammer hopes the victim pays the fees before discovering that the check is fraudulent. If you do receive an unsolicited e-mail offering you a job at Saudi Aramco or inviting you to bid for a contract -- sometimes involving extremely large amounts of money -- this is invariably a scam. Do not send any money.
This warning is issued to the general public as a public service. Saudi Aramco, its subsidiary companies, and their agents will not be liable for any losses incurred as a result of these unauthorized activities.

We recommend that you ignore all such unsolicited e-mails and telephone calls. If you wish to apply for a job with Saudi Aramco, please visit the companys official Jobs & Careers site

This suggests to me that they do NOT make unsolicited email job offers nor go through some website like MONSTER to find their employees.

Nor can I find anything on the site suggesting that one apply to a @aramco.com email address with some form that they send you. All applications are done on the website directly using their system. There is no mention of any education jobs. If this was a legitimate ad it would tell you to use the proper website system.

I am now completely convinced that this is a scam. Sorry TTkira...

Seems that there are a lot of scammers out there. Now really does anyone believe that oil companies are so hard up for EFL teachers that they send out unsolicited e-mails offering jobs at US$14,000 a month ?

If you believe that you DESERVE to be scammed !

Indeed. There aren't any ESL/EFL teaching jobs at $168,000 cash per year.

Note that TTkira is not a TEFLer.

VS

(on edit... let me clarify, TTkira is a TEFLer, but this job was Advanced ITC teacher... so, like me, she could teach in two departments. Cool)

ARAMCO does not recruit ANYONE by trawling the web and sending out invitations.

This is a SCAM. There are none so deaf as those who refuse to hear !

Definitely a scam. Recruiters never mention ARAMCO by name (probably under orders) instead using language like, 'A leading Saudi Arabian oil company...'

Wow! This has been one of the most interesting - what would you call it - "threads" of postings that I have read in a while. I agree with the last poster. I was contacted via email by a recruiting company that was hired by ARAMCO to find teachers and I didn't know it was ARAMCO until they wanted me to fly to Houston, TX for an interview with the oil company. Oh, and I contacted them first. We go to ARAMCO, not the other way around.

Special "shout out" to VS for being having her radar up on this. Cool
