2. Interview times are pretty much fixed. If you have a real problem with the day/time then you can sometimes make a case for getting it changed, but I've only seen it happen once or twice a year (out of several hundred interviews each time). There's actually more flexibility if you have an emergency come up on short notice, in which case they can sometimes move you to the end of the week. It better be something like your arm falling off or your entire family dying because not much else is accepted: JET is not about you and has other people to accept if you can't organize yourself on 2-3 weeks notice.

In other words,

2. Happy Fun Ball, produced by Wacky Products Incorporated, and its parent company, Global Chemical Unlimited, for just $14.95, is the toy sensation that's sweeping the nation!
-Warning: Pregnant women, the elderly, and children under 10 should avoid prolonged exposure to Happy Fun Ball.

-Caution: Happy Fun Ball may suddenly accelerate to dangerous speeds.

-Happy Fun Ball contains a liquid core, which, if exposed due to rupture, should not be touched, inhaled, or looked at.

-Do not use Happy Fun Ball on concrete.

-Discontinue use of Happy Fun Ball if any of the following occurs:
      -itching
      -vertigo
      -dizziness
      -tingling in extremities
      -loss of balance or coordination
      -slurred speech
      -temporary blindness
      -profuse sweating
      -heart palpitations

-If Happy Fun Ball begins to smoke, get away immediately. Seek shelter and cover head.

-Happy Fun Ball may stick to certain types of skin.

-When not in use, Happy Fun Ball should be returned to its special container and kept under refrigeration. Failure to do so relieves the makers of Happy Fun Ball, Wacky Products Incorporated, and its parent company, Global Chemical Unlimited, of any and all liability.

-Ingredients of Happy Fun Ball include an unknown glowing green substance which fell to Earth, presumably from outer space.

-Happy Fun Ball has been shipped to our troops in Saudi Arabia and is being dropped by our warplanes on Iraq.

-Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.

-Happy Fun Ball comes with a lifetime warranty.

Thanks! I was just curious. I am a full time student still and go to school 4 days a week so that is where my concern came from.

Then you'd have to take a day off classes for your interview! Many of the the other applicants are going to be final year students. It would be impossible to arrange interviews around their lives. And quite frankly, you shouldn't expect any potential employers (especially those that have large scale interview periods) to arrange things around you.

I wasn't expecting, just curious. I didn't know if you were assigned a time or if it was more like a schedule an appointment type thing. Until the last day or so I was under the impression from their website that the interviews were held throughout February and not within a day or two.

Congratulations to all who got an interview. I applied to JET this year as well. I'd be interviewing in Miami if I get one but I have a couple of questions that maybe one of you could answer.

1. Not to be pessimistic but does anyone know of someone who applied to JET and was not accepted then applied for a second time and got in?

Thanks!

I got in on my second try. I didn't even make it to interview the first time, and got in on the second. It's definitely worth a second shot if you're willing to try again.

*None* of you are interviewing in Denver or Chicago?! Normally I can find at least one person here that's interviewing through there! Confused

Well, I just went for my interview in Ottawa yesterday, and I think it went okay... maybe not great, but okay. The allotted time for the interview was 20 minutes, 15 minutes for the actual interview and 5 for questions. I was surprised, because I heard it would be 30. Traffic was really bad that day due to weather, so I'm assuming it might be because of that.
For some reason I wasn't asked to do a lesson demo, but was asked how I would explain to the class what directions are (i.e. up, down, left, right, etc.), but I wasn't explicitly asked to teach them. There was a whiteboard behind me though, so I'm not sure if I was supposed to take the initiative and do a short run-through of a lesson. However, a classmate of mine who went in the other was asked to teach the interviewers what a skate was using the board... maybe I'm just thinking too much?

Oh, just a quick question. I have a girlfriend in Japan, but decided not to mention it on the application. I've heard tales of people being interrogated on whether or not they're solely going to Japan to be with that special someone, but a friend of me told me that it would have been better to mention it, as someone she knows was placed in the same city as his girlfriend. Any thoughts on this?

Does anyone know with certainty whether or not a a first ever offense of a misdemeanor DWI would automatically disqualify someone from the JET program?

Never mention it. Put down a location request and simply say that you know people that live in the area and you thought you'd be able to settle faster if you were in that area, but the important point is that you want to experience life in Japan so any area would be ok.
