The most likely reason that you guys havent gotten information about arrival and training and such is that right now (like, this week) the dispatch agencies and the BOEs are figuring out their deals and fighting over positions and such. Its frustrating, yeah, but since different areas have slightly different school schedules, they wouldnt have a start date yet if they didnt know the district. Im not sure, but COEs might even need a BOE to sign off on them. That would be a definite reason why you havent gotten them yet. I would probably expect to hear from them within the next couple weeks, and I really wouldnt worry too much. I would be really surprised if they actually overhired and didnt have a job for some people, I think they usually hire a safe amount from overseas and then fill up the rest of the slots with in-country hires (which there are no shortage of).

I guess I should've worded that better. Heart received my information on February 5, so seems it should've been submitted to Immigration already.

As for the Visa, I already looked into how long it takes at my Japanese embassy, and that's two days min, three days max.

That aside, if they're truly waiting on the CoE to send back to everyone, then they should just say so or give that as the reason as to why they haven't given us a date for the training session yet.

Haha, whoah there! I'd assumed that the dates for different training groups would be determined by the areas people were being placed in. From what I've read, and as Bread mentions, the BoEs can afford to wait until the last minute to finalise contracts, which leads the dispatch companies scrambling to finalise everything.

The BOEs has nothing to do with the COE application. Otherwise companies wouldn't be able to bring over reserves and alternates ready to work with visas in hand or allocate placements after arrival the way that dispatches often do. More likely, they left it to the last minute to start the application process either due to hiring the recruits later or plain disorganisation and because this is a very busy time for immigration, it's taking them longer to process them.

Hey now, I'm a newb to all of this. =P I'm still learning. lol

But what Bread wrote did make sense, though. Immigration is probably just busy.

Thank you for the information there, guys. It now makes some sense why things are taking so long. In the past, they were always very quick to keep me updated so I knew there must have been some reason why.

Has anyone managed to obtain a 'medical certificate'? It is the chest X-ray part that seems a difficult for me. My local GP says that she is unwilling to expose me to radiation when I have no history of chest problems. Furthermore, she said that as it is related to a job I would have to pay for it myself and that it could be a few hundred pounds. I e-mailed Miki last week and she has got back to me today saying she will find more information but just wondered if you guys had any tips?

I'm assuming you are from the UK, too.

If the x-ray is for TB, then a Mantoux skin test should be enough. Ask your employer.

If they are fine with that then it is possible to get the skin test done for free if you can convince your local NHS TB authority to give you an appointment at your local general hospital. If you do get the appointment through your GP, it will cost you. It was the very nice travel nurse at my GP who told gave me the info and contact number.

I was living in E.Kent so had to contact the office in Deal (I think 01304 is Deal anyway). They got me a free TB skin test. It was first scheduled to be done in Ashford, but they got back in touch with me when there was a cancellation at my local hospital in Canterbury.

In the UK, they don't like giving people unnecessary exposure to any form of radiation. But if after the skin test, your results come back abnormal, they will give you the x-ray which should be free (as there would now be a valid reason for having it done).

Thank you for your reply, Seklarwia. I am indeed from the UK. ^^

I have asked Heart for more information and hopefully, like you suggest, I'll be able to just have the skin test! I'll just have to wait and see. I don't like the idea of having an x-ray anyway... it sounds somewhat scary.

It's really not! Mine took literally a minute from the moment I walked in the door to when I walked out again.

Did anyone else get a message from Ms. Takahashi regarding the positions starting in April? I did this morning...

Miki wrote:
Dear Wendy,

Thank you very much for your correspondence with us regarding the positions starting in April 2010.

Here's an update on our current situation.

Recently, all of our qualified prospective candidates have accepted offers, and agreed to come to work for us.

This has left us with a roster that is slightly overfilled at this point in time, and we are not sure how many more positions will be available for April as we are now going through a bidding process with some of our partner school boards. Therefore, for a handful of you, we would not yet be able to assign a position, and we must advise you that the next 2-3 weeks are a critical waiting period in regards to our hiring procedure. We will contact you again after we have found out if more positions are available after the bidding process. Until you hear our instructions regarding this, please do not purchase an airline ticket.

If this waiting process should make it impossible to complete any plans to come to Japan and begin work, or if you know you wouldn't be able to arrive on short notice if offered a position for April, please let us know. It would allow us to more quickly offer a position to someone else who may be able to do so.

Thank you very much for your patience, understanding, and consideration.
So, it does seem like they over-hired candidates. Kind of a bummer, though. I know it doesn't mean that I'm out, per se, but still doesn't seem to be good, either. Being stuck here past April will put a huge damper on the plans I had and as usual, it's connected to money issues.

Thanks for the information, OneJoelFifty. I still think it is scary, heh!

I haven't heard anything at all. Hmm, I wonder. I'm sorry to hear you got that news. I suppose all we can do is be positive and hope something comes through!

Did you actually e-mail Miki about the situation or did she send you that out of the blue? Just curious.

Yeah, but still weird how this is happening, though. Never been in this type of situation before.

Not really. I did send an e-mail asking about when we would be contacted since she'd given me a time-frame as to when they would be having staff meetings or whatever. She answered it, explaining about how at this time of the year, the Immigration offices are busy when it comes to CoE processing and how they [Heart] was behind schedule in general this year.

As for that message, it did sorta come from right out of the blue, because the last e-mail Miki sent, which was late last week, said,

I was wondering if you just wanted to be somewhere with good transportation or in walking distance from the apartment? Is that the only option or are you flexible? Do you mind driving in Japan if you are placed in a rural area or does it have to be in the city?

My Response wrote:
As for which I prefer, I don't really have that much of a preference. Being in walking distance from the apartment would be very ideal, but driving around in Japan would be okay too. I already know the procedure needed to obtain an International Driver's License and looked into it a while ago, but have yet to get one since I don't know when I'll be headed over. So, in other words, whether it's urban, suburban, or rural, as long as I have everything I may need or access to everything I may need, then I have no qualms on whether it's an area within a walking distance or one within driving.

Dear Wendy,

Thank you for your email.

We understand and it will be helpful information for us!

Best regards,

Then the e-mail I posted up came about. So you can see how "out there" the one I just got this morning truly seemed compared to the ones prior to it.

I received the same email, nice to know I wasn't the only one! I'd already talked about my preferences etc a while ago though.

Australian visa application on standby...

They haven't asked about my preferences since the interview, which was sooo long ago!

I just got the same e-mail as you both - no surprises there really! I am in quite a tricky situation as a consequence. I'll just have to leave it to fate to see what happens, I guess. I really want to go, though. I'd been mentally preparing myself for it and for leaving work and now, suddenly, I have to face the harsh reality that I may have to stay in my current job long-term. That's the most depressing part of it all. Ho hum.

Best of luck to you two. Let's hope we all meet up in Japan!

At least you have a job to stay with. I don't have one at all so yeah, I'm pretty desperate here.

I received the same email. How will this affect me getting CoE, if I have already applied for it through Heart? If I do not manage to secure a position with Heart, will they simply just refuse to give it to me or will I not be able to still apply for my visa?
