I would like to hear from experienced TEFL-ers: What is your opinion of this book?
I just finished my Tefl course with Oxford House in Barcelona, and it's time for me to start looking for work.
Of course I have my tutors to help me with questions but I did a lot of independent research about TEFL before I even started my course.
I read Teaching English Abroad by Susan Griffith about a year ago, but I read the 2003 version, which is outdated now. I know that there's a revised version out that's more up-to-date.
I have considered buying it, but I have some doubts.
I realize you can't believe everything that you read, but I've come across a website that criticized the book, claiming that it recommends some blacklisted schools. Other people claim that this is the "Bible" of TEFL books.
I clarify that I am NOT agreeing with this website. Can anyone tell me if this book is worth the money and if these things are true?
Should I buy it?
In case anyone questions this, I think that a reasonable person can see how this is job related.
I'm also going to ask my tutors, of course.
Thank you in advance for reading my question! |

I'd go to the library and get it. If you like it, then buy it. |

Ahhh same exact question!
I'll look at this link, thanks.
My local library just has the 2003 edition (I live in a Podunk town); it looked to be an excellent research tool but I was concerned because of what I've heard regarding to blacklisted schools. |

This kind of book just seems too limiting today. Why reference only one source when you have the world at your fingertips, and a range of opinions to weigh and compare? Along the same lines, I no longer see the need to buy any kind of travel guide, and it is a relief. I remember having this sinking feeling when I relied on Lonely Planet on my first trips through Mexico and Central America that I was having a "Lonely Planet" experience. |
