|
|
Hello,
I am nearing the end of my MEd+TESOL program and have been advised to start applying for jobs in KSA ahead of the upcoming academic year. My concern is that most employers require that you submit a copy of your degree with your application; however, I don't have my degree yet - not for a few months at least. My CV states, "expected graduation date ...".
Do any of you recommend submitting this CV without the degree? Are employers likely to consider someone who is near finishing their degree or more likely to throw out such submissions given that they are incomplete?
Your feedback is appreciated.

Why...in the Wide, Wide World of Sports...would you want to WASTE a newly-minted M. Ed. in the great (NOT!) sandbox???
One might think that an advanced education might've taught you a thing or two... Unless, that is your M. Ed. is from Bob Jones University...or, possibly, Liberty U!

Or some mail order college in Arizona.
The myth seems to still be alive that the best money is to be made in Saudi Arabia. If I were looking for a job in the ME, I would go to the TESOL Arabia conference and see who the players are.
Or go for one of those cush jobs in Korea with 5 month's paid holiday.
KSA? WHY? |

It depends. Some employers wont' consider you unless you have the piece of paper. Others will be more flexible. Bear in mind that by no means all employers in KSA and the Gulf require an MA at all. If you don't have an MA you will, however, need to have a CELTA and good teaching experience to compensate. |

NCTBA/Desultude - let's just say that I have a special affinity for the sandbox And, no, it's not a crackerjack box degree; it's legit (bonifide anglophone university).
Cleo - thanks! I guess my fear is not being taken seriously when applying if I can't submit the documents with the application. I know that being taken seriously upon touching down in KSA is a whole 'nother issue. |

Not only that, some may hire you at a lower salary with the "insha Allah (sic), we'll see about a pay rise when you get your certificate...!!".
Yes....and I'll see about entering Wimbledon this year, whooping EVERYBODY!!! |

Hmm Asda brings up a good point. So if your degree is completed before your start date, but contract negotiations take place before the degree is completed... do you get hired at the BA rate or the MA rate?
I know someone who graduated in the summer and said they were able to provide a letter from their dept per graduation as they were leaving before their degree came in. Anyone had to do this? |

One govt. place that I know, they 'provisionally' hire you based on what you say you have obtained in terms of quals and exp, then om arrival you have to shove all the certificates and letters of experience under their noses as they 'recalculate' where you go on their pay scale. |

KSA4life,
I got my first job in KSA a few weeks before I finished my MA. I was able to get an official letter from my university stating my completion date. They accepted it without any questions and didn't lower my benefits package. |
