I know someone who is currently being interviewed. Seems that there are just a handful of immediate (as in right now!!) openings for TEFLers and they are interviewing people with impressive CVs. People with 10 - 20 years of university level experience both in and out of the Gulf.
They lost a batch of their fancy housing to flash floods from the major rainstorms that also hit Jeddah. So, right now many teachers are living in 5 star hotels in Jeddah and being bused in every day.
More if and when I get it...

they certainly scratch a lot everywhere but do not do a lot else
my guess of this kaust is that it is just another 'big show' just like so many other ones
beginning with the 'kingdom of humanity' itself as such
anyone tell me please, WHY would it be anything else? WHY??????

Yes, it sounds like it is just a larger set of smoke and mirrors at the moment, but the pay and benefits seem to be top of the league. So I bet lots of us are willing to help produce the smoke and hold the mirror.
Like so many of the educational experiments in the Gulf, it will be interesting to see how it goes.

1) Because it is the King's own personal project and lifelong dream.
2) As far as academics is concerned, it is legit from both ends. Proper true faculty, sourced from around the world. And proper true [non-Saudi] students wanting to learn and who actually know what the word 'research' means. |

Big Rock Candy Mountain
One evening as the sun went down and the jungle fire was burning
Down the track came a hobo hiking and he said boys I'm not turning
I'm headin for a land that's far away beside the crystal fountain
So come with me we'll go and see the Big Rock Candy Mountain
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain there's a land that's fair and bright
Where the handouts grow on bushes and you sleep out every night
Where the boxcars are all empty and the sun shines every day
On the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees
Where the lemonade springs where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain all the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth and the hens lay soft boiled eggs
The farmer's trees are full of fruit and the barns are full of hay
Oh, I'm bound to go where there ain't no snow
Where the rain don't fall and the wind don't blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain you never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol come a-trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats and the railroad bulls are blind
There's a lake of stew and of whiskey too
You can paddle all around 'em in a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain the jails are made of tin
And you can walk right out again as soon as you are in
There ain't no short handled shovels, no axes saws or picks
I'm a goin to stay where you sleep all day
Where they hung the jerk that invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain
I'll see you all this coming fall in the Big Rock Candy Mountain |

Dear NCTBA,
Now you KNOW the doc told you to cut down on all those milkshakes. Being a victim of lactose intolerance and milk /casein allergy is no joke, mister.

What I am saying in a roundabout way is that all this talk about jobs at KAUST is idle dreaming. Ain't gonna happen for us TEFLing dudes.
And I am quite happy with my medication. |

Yes... we can tell...
But Scot... they have just interviewed a good friend of mine... for a TEFL position. And I have contact with another person who has also been interviewed. They were told for immediate start, but it sounds like it will be a very small department for the moment.
