I am going to Thailand in mid-December in search of a teaching position and although I realize that it is not high time for schools to be hiring, I am hoping to find something decent that pays enough for basic living. Does anyone know of a good job agency, school, or possible teaching gigs? I have a degree in English and a TEFL/TESOL certification. I'm am willing to work in any decent area of Thailand. Any help would be fabulous!!!

What do YOU consider to be a decent area of Thailand? I'll bet it's different them what I consider decent or what any other random 5 people consider decent.

Standard EFL jobs are easiest to get in country. Usually only agencies and International schools will recuit overseas.

Should be able to find work at a language school if you are not picky and dont need much to live on. Also should be able to find work at a government school for 30-35,000 baht a month with poor-liveable (or for an "experience") work and living conditions.

Possible to find work in the 40,000+ range after you have some Thailand experience or if you look very presentable, smile a lot, can impress at an interview and are lucky enough to get one at a mid-range school/company.

Usually if you work for a uni (not the big ones) they want some experience.

Another useful site is stickman bangkok--has long article about teaching here. Comprehensive. Couple of yrs old but still covers schools, academies, unis etc.

Following my first trip to LOS, I was back in Europe and sent an ad to the BPost. It was expensive, because you have to have a small block ad to be worth it. I think it was about 8,000b for 4 days. I have post-grad degrees and 20 years experience (etc).

I got zero replies, except for an email from a dodgy-sounding agency.

If you work in something highly desirable/unique (forensic accounting, neurology etc) then it may be worthwhile. However, I have never seen any TEFL teachers get good results from posting in the BP. Maybe experienced DOSs could get replies.

Nice to see you posting again, Eddy. Seems like its been awhile. Always best to have posters with experience who will post realistic and honest advice.
