Dear Bindair,
AUST, I think, is a good place to start teaching in the UAE. It's not as hictec and demanding as other universities here. I know few colleagues who are actually studying and working at the same time as the teaching load don't exceed 12 hrs. You have to do 10 office hours, though, which you use for helping students with any inquiries as well as preparing your lessons.
The Faculty of Foreign Languages and Translation has an open-minded dean who is keen on making improvements to the system, which needs some work.
Hope I could give you an idea.
Write to me if you have more questions...

Thanks for the information, Smiley,
But, this request for info is about 8 months old and I would assume that the OP has already found a job.

Smiley,
Your teaching load sounds nice. Since you spend so much time in your office, how are the facilities. Shared offices? Do you have your own computer?
Who are the students? A mix of nationalties?
How is the housing? How far are you from Dubai?

(thought we might as well get answers to the usual questions while we have a resident AUSTian. ) |

VS,
I live in Ajman where the two campuses I work at are located.
Currently Im sharing an office with two colleagues and each one of us is provided with a PC and a printer.
I had to stay in a furnished apartment till I found a good place. Some colleagues preferred to stay in Sharjah (for obvious reasons) but others stayed here and took advantage of the cheaper cost of living. Rents have started to rise, though, as more and more people working in Dubai and Sharjah come here looking for cheap accommodation. You can go from Ajman to Dubai in 30-60 minutes depending on traffic. I personally enjoy the quietness here and go to Dubai whenever I long for the glamorous hectic life

Hi
A couple of comments - AUST is all over the Emirates, not just in Ajman - and, what on earth would the obvious reasons for staying in Sharjah be? |

I know that AUST has campuses in other Emirates but my messages were talking about the situation in Ajman.
The obvious reasons are places to hang out in, good resturants, malls, clubs, etc... i.e. LIFE... there's nothing to be done in Ajman other than shopping at Carrefour |

Ajman University of Science and Technology is recruiting faculty for its College of Education and Basic Science. What is the package like for a new hire at the lecturer level? |

Good clubs in Sharjah? I thought that was the infamous "dry" Emirate? |
