dakeos, the EF houses I have lived in and now oversee are of a very high standard and whilst there is more that could be done, everything works, the maid keeps them clean and tidy and the buildings are in good repair and well placed.
Saying that not everyone likes working and living with the same people so you don't have to choose to live there but I feel it is very helpful for a new teacher to live in housing like this to help them settle in. The option to move out is always there.
As for an allowance I don't know that would depend on your centers rules and what you can ask for.
All my new teachers that come to me at Puri are sent photos of the housing they will be living in before they arrive and this seems to help them with the worry of what the housing will be like. But again I cant comment about other centers procedures. |

At EF BSD I've had 3-4 native English speakers of Asian descent over the past few years, as well as 2-3 of Afro-Caribbean descent. I am not aware of any cases where those teachers had to deal with any form of discrimination from the school or its employees.
It's true that in some of those cases, there were some concerns voiced and even uncomfortable comments made by some students and parents. I'm happy to report, though, that in all cases the people concerned allowed the teachers to prove themselves, and quickly readjusted their attitudes. I think its safe to say that, after those intial concerns, those teachers never had to deal with any criticism outside professional boundaries. Having previously worked in China, where ugly race-driven arguments seemede to come up almost daily, I have been very impressed with atittudes here.
Good luck!

Ok thank you both for your responses regarding EF.
I am thinking of probably applying with EF due to my nationality and lack of experience.
I have an english accent as I have lived in the UK since I was 7, it's just that I have an Irish passport, therefore there would be no problem with understanding my accent.
Unfortunately my whole plan to go to Indonesia may have to go on hold for a year or two now as a job opportunity within my field of marketing has presented itself, sod's law hey. I'm half kind of hoping to not get the job, but would be foolish to say no if I was offered it.
I will go to Indo, just not as soon as I planned.
Would I be able to apply for BSD as well, as I have family in BSD City, or is it more of a case of I teach where I'm needed?
