I don't know the OP and I'm not trying to imply anything...but since this is a serious sounding matter and some are interested...
I heard from a mutual acquaintance that there may be a few relevant facts missing from the original description of events posted here, and a bit of sensationalism and exaggeration may have been added. |

So, thessy, would you care to explain what I have missed out>
Perhaps I swung some right hooks at the Chinese teacher. Thankfully the wound has settled down and the bruise and cut is healing. Perhaps I could post a link to you in a pm with a picture.
I've got nothing to hide, heck, even my username gives away my real name quickly.
Also, thessy, you're taking as gospel the word of someone who uses 'gayboy' to describe everything. |

I have known the acquaintance to whom I referred for quite some time. Being an older, well spoken gentleman, I don't think "gayboy" is a part of his regular vocabulary. I'm not sure who you think I (or him?) am, but I think you must be mistaken
I said what I said and that's all that I have to say. I'm not accusing anyone of lying, I'm just stating that I know someone who described things a bit differently. |

No, I'm generally interested in what you believe I have fabricated?
Also, I only spoke to two people on the day of the incident outside of the school, one being an English and one a Chinese, I cannot understand how we could have a mutual acquaintance in this instance.
I have only really discussed this with my foreign co-workers and the aforementioned people. |

Then what exactly are you saying? You are casting aspersions on the thread starter with your innuendo. |

There's quite a difference between fabrication and leaving out information.
I still hold that a thing or two has been left out from this story. This whole thing just doesn't add up. |

If this event happened as posted by the OP, I would say this to him:
You actually have a lot of power in this situation. Moreso if you have your F.E.C.
But:
Don't get into any kind of argument/conversation with the school about the events, don't try to talk sense to anyone at the school, dont go through the process yourself. Don't go to the police directly, they will call the school and act not as investigators, but as very partial, insane, mediators between you and them.
Your 2 options are
a. The polite water under the bridge offer of "pay up and we will let this go", as above posters already said. Do it in private with the big boss.
b. Threaten (the boss) that u have already contacted your country's embassy/consulate, given them photo of the wound, weapon, and hospital record, and they are awaiting your word re: if you want to press charges or not. If you say go, they will provide you with free legal consel, contact the city government, the province, and the foreign experts commision (or whatever its called).
You want to do everything either with the boss only, no other people in the room, or as indirectly as possible (u r not there). It is much more powerful to have people submitting documents, making phone calls etc. for you. Act like you have powerful friends .
You need a dont *beep* with me attitude, but don't let the boss lose face in front his friends or staff (except maybe his lawyer).
This is why every FT in China needs a friend with guanxi. If this happened to me I would call my old boss, the head of an American company who lives here.
I have had serious quarels in China (landlords etc.), I have even been arrested, and I always winby a mile, because I know that a big enough stink theatens discomfort for whoever is the superior of my adversary. Bosses of schools have guanxi, but they lick someone's boots and that someone can't live with an international incident. |

Have you ever been around Chinese women? The story sounds eminently believable to me. |

I'll 2nd Zero.
A better question is - "Have you ever been around "foreign teachers in China"?
In my opinion, everyone who has contributed to this topic needs to find something better to do with their time. That includes the originator. Why tell the world that a girl hurt you?

| What a bizarre thread. . .all I can think of is what anyone should do whilst being stabbed. That is to fight back. Not think about the contract ramifications. If someone charges you with a sharp object, either get the hell out of there or slam a chair over her head. |

These things are bound to happen time to time. A little workplace horseplay and a dash of cultural misunderstanding and there you have it, a wee bit of a stabbing.
I recall a young man who mistakenly assumed "Blasting Cap for TRAINING" was entirely different than "Blasting cap, LIVE". You can imagine his chagrin when the improvised "office rocket" he was trying to harass his co-workers with detonated with full force.
Everybody made good sport over it a few days later at the hospital where doctors had dressed the stump of his right thumb and two fingers. They immediately took to calling him "lefty".
Workplace horseplay ... good times.
Seriously, horseplay is a leading cause of accidents. Avoid it. |
