Hi Naturegirl, long time no see! how are you?
I think there're also 2 important (and relatively cheap) airlines. These are the ones recommended by the staff at the Romanian Consulate.
Aeroflot (very cheap, transfer in Moscow)
Turkish Airline (but usually transfer at Istanbul... i heard that it's better to avoid transferring there

There are a few low-cost airlines that have drastically reduced the cost of getting to Romania. Do a google searcha and you can see find their websites:
Sky Europe (from Slovakia and Austria)
MyAir (Italy)
Clubair (Italy)
Climber Air (Denmark)
Blue Air (Romanian flies to Rome, Barcelona, Maastricht and Istanbul)
AlpiEagles (Italy) |

Take note, Wizz Air will fly from Luton (somewhere near london) from 15th Jan. Had a look and if you book now, you can go for a mere 50 return....when I was there 5 years ago a return to civilised Europe cost at least 400! |

Cheapest way between Beijing and Europe used to be TAROM but dunno about now
Why does Blue Air have such an AWFUL website? I spent 90 minutes this afternoon trying to book a flight !
ONe example of their pitiful attempt at modernity: they have a drop-down menu of countries in English, listed alphabetically, but according to the Romanian name of the country ! So Bulgaria comes before Bahrain and the UK is immediately after France

Blue Air are a classic example of how Romanian companies do business. I tried to book a flight to France with them recently. Website wouldn't work, kept timing out, stuff like that. When I finally got to the end of the booking process online it suddenly decided it wouldn't accept Visa Electron, although it clearly states you can pay with an Electron card at the beginning!
Called their support line to speak to a typically grumpy and unhelpful customer support woman who tutted and huffed constantly. Eventually she said I would have to go to their agency to book it, because the website was still rather new and not working 100% (then WHY WHY WHY make it active - debug it first, FFS!).
Of course, because I had now gone to the trouble of travelling across town to their offices to give them my business, I could no longer have the web rate and had to pay more.
Furthermore (and indeed there is more) they put my name into the computer incorrectly so my middle name became my first name and my first my surname. I pointed out their mistake and was told "Don't worry, it probably doesn't matter." Of course, I did worry as airport security, even in Romania, isn't exactly known for being lenient these days! She then told me that it was impossible to change, and I had to insist that it was perfectly possible to change it.
The trick I've learnt in Romania is to make it clear to the bureaucrat/cashier/whoever that NOT helping you will be a lot more time-consuming than just doing what you want. Eventually, after having bothered to consult her manual, she found it was possible to correct the name - but that she'd have to charge me 40 Euro for the correction!!!
I didn't pay it, naturally...
This experience pretty much underlines the whole problem with Romanian-operated businesses. Their policies often seem to be anti-customer, their staff are rude and treat all clients like an inconvenience, or sometimes as potential theives, and they rarely stop and think about what the customer would like to see on the site or in the shop. Then, of course, they wonder why business is bad. |

Whizz Air have a regular Monday and Friday service Doncaster to Bucharest - Bucharest to Doncaster. On average you can get a return for around 65 pounds sterling return. |

Blue Air now fly from Glasgow to Bucharest, once a week. Wizzair is planning to do the same from May 2016. |
