I've been shaving my younger brother because he's a hairy little mofo who can't do it without either cutting himself or doing a horrid job and looking like a patch-work gorilla. (Plus I think he's just plain lazy and knows I will)

How old is he, Sara? Sounds like he likes the attention you give him rather than the lazy fact.
What about downstairs? What do people do to keep the Amazon under stable and seck-see looking without going to far. My GF uses Nair. I tried this once; never again! It burnt for three days! I though my nuts were gunna fall off! Thank God they only dropped so far huh!
I am sharing way too much shi-te with you guys!!!
Ideas?

I decided that not upgrading wasn't good enough for me.
I've downgraded to a old fashioned safety razor. 25 rubles (less than a dollar) for a cheap metal handle in a cheap already broken plastic case (tiny mirror included). Double bladed razors are 6 rubles for a pack of 5 (tried the 'platinum for 9 rubles but they weren't any better and just made me feel like I was falling for the advertising again).
Hurt like hell the first few times and I had to get the knack of it. But now I feel all cool and retro and highly skilled. Sometimes I even put little squares of TP on the cuts.
And my zits seem to have finally gone away (I'm pushing 31). I think the slightly less close shave did the trick. Or maybe it's the weird chemicals in the 10 ruble (about a quarter) metal tube of local shave cream. (careful, don't get it mixed up with your toothpaste)
I'm thinking of investing in a leather strop and a straight razor next but probably I'm too much of a weanie (and too lousy at sharpening things) to try it for real. |

First you have to decide to shave, wax or use chemicals (creams or lotions like nair). Each has benefits and drawbacks and a lot will depend on the individual. Shaving works for anyone but the results are short-lived. Waxing is painful for most women (some are more sensitive than others) and a lot of ladies are prone to ingrown hairs, but it lasts longer than shaving or chemicals and the hair will grow back finer and more sparse. Using chemicals is tricky because they don't work well on all women. If the woman is sensitive, they may sting during application and cause a rash that is much worse than shaving. If she has particularly coarse hair, you may not be able to achieve good results because all the hair won't dissolve. On the positive side, if they work, chemicals provide results that last longer than shaving without the pain of waxing.
If you plan to shave, I would strongly suggest investing in razors used for surgery preps. I have no idea how plentiful these are, but here in the USA you can get them at medical supply shops. They look pretty vicious but they are a thousand times better than razors designed for the face or legs. If you can't get one, trim the hair down to about 1/4 of an inch in length before you shave.
First thing I do is apply a moisturizing lotion and then a warm wet towel for a couple of minutes. When you remove the towel put on a thick layer of shaving cream or gel (I also put the can in hot water before I start so that the shaving cream is warm when I apply it). I recommend using a new blade unless you have a surgery prep razor (you can get two or three good shaves out of them). When you shave, do it in the direction of hair growth and don't keep going over the same area repeatedly because it will irritate the skin. If the shave wasn't close enough, reapply the warm towel and shaving cream and shave again going against hair growth. If it still isn't close enough, wait a day before trying again.
Once the hair is removed to your liking, rinse and dry the area well and apply a generous amount of moisturizing lotion. Another trick is to roll non-scented deodorant on the freshly shaved area. To minimize itching as the hair grows back, use baby powder. |

I wax the southern areas, or at least as much as I can without crying.
Then, shave the rest with my electric razor. I keep it clean and shorn with a regular razor, until I'm ready to go through the pain of waxing again.
Be careful though, I've noticed certain areas that take a LONG while to grow back in, which makes me worry about permenate (don't feel like checking the dictionary, and I don't remember that spell check thing) bald spots.
Not that I mind the Brazillian, but I do like a variety. I can't stay one way for too long.
If I do end up with severe bald spots, it's gonna look pretty stupid when I try to go a little more natural (just a little).
Besides variety is the spice of life.
I can't stand shaving it all. Itches too much.
I've gotta wax or only shave part or a combo of the two.
I haven't been brave enough to try the chemicals yet. I have sensitive skin and have had bad, stinging and burning experiences with nair (sensitive skin) on on my legs. It makes me worry about what I would go through if I attempted to burn off the hair down below.  |

I like my facial hair and have worn a beard for nigh on 30 years. That is how I avoid those nasty red spots ( the original poster's question)
I like hair on women too. Hairy legs and pits. As long as your clean!
So ladies, and gents, why bother shaving? I think it was Alexander who set the trend but why do those of you who shave REALLY do thbis to yourselves.
Please tell me it is not vanity. |

I must have the weirdest type of sensitive skin - My lily-white skin reacts to almost everything (even a cold breeze on exposed skin will make my skin inflate and go red and itchy in seconds, no joke) and I have so much trouble with products for any part of my body. I use triple blade razors on my legs and arms not b/c of the hype but because I've tried them all and right now they seem to work best for me.
Regarding the nether regions: I've tried both shaving and waxing, both have resulted in severe pain and bleeding, then about a month until things actually stop hurting, itching, breaking, bleeding, etc. I've had great success, despite my otherwise extremely sensitive skin, with depilatories (the creams, lotions, and gels - make sure you get the one that's designed for 'coarse' hair) - it really does work for me, no pain at all (unless you leave it on too long; soak before; or shave before/after, or apply more than once in 24hrs - all of which will ofcourse result in pain and/or ineffectiveness) - it also lasts longer than shaving; leaves it soft and smooth...wait, should I be sharing this much? sorry  |

Well, not simple vanity. My beard is so thin and patchy that it's humiliating. It's obvious to anyone who sees it that I'm just fooling myself. Only a Russian Orthodox priest or a Chinese hermit could get away with a beard like mine. |
