PhilipJames...

It has been some time since your initial post...and I wished to contact you... .but I wasn't signed up.
I've lived in KSA off and on for many years. It is a generally a brutal place to make a living. ...But it is a living.

Anti-depresants are probably availble in KSA ...just be cautious when inquiring.

Please remember that the last people you ever want to ask for adice are the people who generally contribute to this site.

Sorry for cutting in - your post argus eyed is worth a way much longer resonance.

But since I have cut in: true, all too true. And so spot-on too.

Wow! I presume then that your tidbit of advice is also not to be trusted? "Anti-depresants are probably availble..." Wow! One certainly can't go wrong there. Thank you, we can all heave a sigh of relief!

Dear cmp45,

It's OK - argus eyed wasn't writing about "advice" - just "adice."

John, VS and others please, please forgive the typo in my last post!

And I know you will...given your history of kindness, tolerence, and human decency.
I would just like to state that the general advice given to the poor guy...who was only looking for a job, after all ...was inhuman, filthy and mean-spirited. The same goes to the poor soul..a Muslim..who was castrated by the usual suspects because he only had a B.A.

Veiled..remember...I love you just as much as all your HCT colleagues did the day you were "ahem"...I mean the day you decided to go on to greener pastures.

I was just at the pharmacy and saw Prozac from the register. I asked if I could buy it without a prescription and was told no problem.

GNC here is ridiculously expensive. I am a gym rat and get everything shipped from www.bodybuilding.com via fedex to the fedex office next to my compound. It gets here in 7 days and is zero hassle.

You should see the stocks in the "GNC" store in Buraidah I looked at. Shelves were less than half-full with a grand total of about 40 different items or less. The only reason the shelves were half-full was because they had lots of the same things.

Ahem...as I have stated previously, antidepressants are widely available without a presecription in the Kingdom. You do not have to be cautious when asking for them. (The guy behind the counter will be glad to display all available brands for you, but in general he is likely to know little about them other than their names. Trained pharmacists are few and far between.) It is not a crime to ask for or take antidepressants in Saudi Arabia.

Again, the problem with antidepressants is not lack of availability or need for a prescription: IT IS LACK OF VARIETY. You may be able to find 3 or 4 of the most widely-used antidepressants, but anything that is slightly unusual is likely not to be available.

I'm trying desperately to give out reliable advice to people who may need it, but all the rest of you keep drowning me out. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Ola Mia!

Despirated you may be .....But reliable?

I am just refering to the viscious, mean-spirited non-sense that "Glorious Contributers" add to this post every day.

You should be ashamed of the advice
that you offered to that poor soul who asked a very legitmate question about the availability psycho-theraputic drugs in a horrible Gulf State.

PS None of you do anything ..and the people who read this know who you are.

Dear argus eyed,

"You should be ashamed of the advice that you offered to that poor soul . ."

Are you referring to those who advised the OP that Saudi is not a good environment for those who suffer from depression?

"It is a generally a brutal place to make a living."

" . . .in a horrible Gulf State."

But is sounds as though you don't think it's very conducive to "non-depression," also.

So, would you advise someone who needs to take drugs to combat depression outside of the Kingdom that they should go to Saudi?

"None of you do anything ..and the people who read this know who you are."

If "none of" you do anything, then I suppose that includes everyone, none being inclusive. But I'm not sure what you mean by "do anything." Could you clarify that, please?

Regards,
John

Dear Sheik,

Not to worry - tomorrow you'll get a nice tie (that's TIE, not Thai.)

Me? Giving mean-spirited advice? Don't want to go into personal details, but I would be the last person who would ever be "mean-spirited" to a person asking for information about depression.

Reliable? I was in KSA until last July. I visited pharmacies about twice monthly, and I visited a variety of them because the meds I needed for an unrelated condition were not always available at any one pharmacy regularly. I also had to shop for a particular brand of antidepressants for a friend who was too depressed to go out and had less access to transportation than I did.

I can assure you that my advice about the availability of antidepressants in the Kingdom is recent and accurate, and that my attitude towards those who suffer from depression, especially while working overseas, is one of utmost compassion and understanding.

I fail to understand why you are attacking the character of the regular posters on this board, and why you are attacking my advice in particular. It hurts my feelings and does no good to anyone else that I can perceive. If you have advice regarding anti-depressants, please post it. If you do not, please keep your vitriolic comments to yourself....and you need to see someone about that rage problem you seem to be experiencing.

Dear Mia,

Poor argus eyed - maybe s/he's depressed.

"Clinical depression, or major depressive disorder, can easily lead to suicidal thoughts and for some can cause rage."
