Hi,

I'm a 46 year old British male with an interest in teaching English in Spain.
I have no degree but it sounds from the postings on this site that that's not going to be a major problem if I have an appropriate TEFL cert. Please advise if I've got that wrong!

I am attracted by the Canterbury TEFL course in Madrid because it guarantees 15 hours teaching on graduation. I have written to the school to ask if they have places on their upcoming course, but all I can raise is an automated reply which does not address my question.

The ITC course in Barcelona sounds good. Any views anyone? How helpful are they in helping their graduates to get employment in the area?

There has been a lot of talk on this site about the collapse of the EFL market in Spain. What is the up to date position on employment prospects for a certified but degreeless Brit?

All advice gratefully received.

Chris

Ability's more important than having a degree, but some employers do require you to have one.
I got my CELTA through International House in Madrid. Some of the people on the course ended up working for the IH business school.
The job market in Madrid is very healthy.
Adelante!

Many thanks for that encouraging posting Graham.
I've now got a place on the cert course at Canterbury English starting this Monday 8th.
I'm flying in to Madrid tomorrow (Sunday) and greatly looking forward to meeting the local expat TEFL community.
All the best, Chris

No problem, Chris. Hope you took plenty of warm clothes with you because the winter in Madrid is long and cold.

Hello Chris.
I have seen the Canterbury course you were referring too and I too would like to take it as you are guaranteed at least fifteen hours work per week afterwards ( assumming you pass ) . I would be most greatful if you could tell me anything you have learnt about the course , i. e acceptability in teaching schools , employment by the school afterwards, enviroment e.t.c .
I too dont have a diploma and so would be interested to know how you found the course in terms of difficulty.
Any thing you can tell me will be of great help.
Thank you,
Roberto ( Alicante ) .
