There are some dodgy companies out there in Shanghai. I think it is just getting worse.
But Click English is a definate waste of time. I worked with them for a bit and they told me i would get paid once a month. After setting me up with 1 client and making me do several hours work with this client they cut back the hours and the pay and made the job totally worthless to me so i quit. But now when i think about it im pretty sure this was the aim and they never paid me either. When i call them they dont answer. and when i email them i get no reply.
If you are private tutoring definately make sure that you recieve payment direct from the client after each session as i learnt the hard way with this scam !!

Pay a uniformed cop 100 RMB to walk over with you and demand your money.

Can we assume you have a LEGAL contract, working visa, and resident permit supporting employment with this employer?

no well thats the thing i never signed anything with them as it was just private 1 on 1 tutorials. i do this ind of work through other agents and the client just pays me direct and i dont have any contracts. i am on a business visa.
i was stupid for not asking the question sooner but i have a feeling after looking back on the whole situation that this is how they operate. they get people and dont pay them and then just get a few more unsuspecting people and run a free business. just a word of warning if anyone is thinking of working for them

For tutoring the fee is due and payable at the BEGINNING of each session. I make that very clear to everyone.

So you start two threads. One with glowing recommendations about the merits of working illegally and the second about the problems you encounter getting paid for your illegal work.

haha you really need to chill out. i am not illegal i am here on a visa. tutoring for cash is not illegal its actually promoted on websites.besides i do most of my work through my husbands own company which he owns so thats how i have good conections. and about the degree thing that was just some advice that i was passing on but not actually what i have done myself.

To teach, whether you call it tutoring or not is illegal without a z working visa. Give us all a break. Who cares what other visa you have. Tutoring for cash is illegal without the necessary legal working credentials, believe it or not.

But hey, since it's "promoted on websites" it must be all fine and dandily legal.

All F and Z visas have to be school-sponsored for teaching, tutoring, whatever term you use. There is not a visa that allows anyone to come here and free-lance only.

There are just too many things that don't add up to be perfectly frank. In the other thread you say that husband's job has been relocated but now you claim that he is a self employed businessman. Is he here on a 'z' visa or 'f' visa? Usually, even for business owners, it is hard to get a 'z' visa straight away. Why are you not on the same visa registered as immediate family? Do you have a RP?

PS:

I have my own business, a fully legit Chinese government business licence, an official chop, a 'z' visa and RP, connections, a Chinese lawyer, business agent and accountant, the whole kit and caboodle but there are still restrictions on work I can and can't carry out!

Your husband just moved his business to China as a foreign enterprise and he already has the proper credentials to hire foreign employees? Damn! He works fast! You, as the wife of a foreign business owner, have an F visa? A Z visa? An RP? A family member of a foreign employee visa..would that be a L visa with extended stay privileges?

There seems to be more holes in this story than Chinese Swiss Cheese!
