With all the hedlines on the crash that killed the Polish president, I thought I would ask about the current teaching situation in Poland. One news article I read says Poland escaped the recession. Do you agree? Does that mean times are good for ESL teachers?

I wsih to teach adults only, not children. Are there many opportunities on the Baltic Sea such as around Gdansk?

Poland escaped the recession? generally agree.
Times are good for ESL teachers? Not really.
Plenty of schools in the tricity (Gdansk, Gdynia, Sopot) but hourly rates are steady or even falling. Any contract (worthless as they are) with a school will almost certainly require you to teach kids. Go it alone, try and pick-up classes at different schools, privates etc., but it'll take you some time to get enough hours to live off. Wouldn't predict that many new groups / courses before October...

I agree that rates are steadily falling.I've been in Poland for almost 10 years and the hourly rate is pretty much the same as when I arrived! This is mainly due to an increase in competition.More and more schools have opened pushing the rates down.

I don't know that a contract is worthless. I'm happy with mine, and the school has lived up to its end in my three years here. And you know which school I work for. I'm happy. And I don't teach kids. That's one thing I've always insisted upon and my school has honored it.

Going it alone and picking up privates is difficult, especially the privates. I prefer sergeants. Smile

I agree that before October pickings are pretty slim unless you've already made contacts. Good luck!
