IMO, Hanoi is more expensive in general.
The apartments and guesthouses are WAY overpriced.
I believe the reason is because the gov owns a lot of properties and artificially inflates the prices (appraisals).
Also, there is a lot of politicians and bureaucrats with money (cash) and many put some of if into houses/apartments/real estate as it's easier to do this than to get it out of the country.
To find accomodation in Hanoi, it takes patience, and a lot of asking around.
Beward of landlords. They insists on dollars, and then if you pay in Dong they will deman black market rates, even though we get paid at the bank rates. This means, we pay higher rents than what we are quoted.
HCMC is cheaper, but not a lot cheaper. But Saigon is, cheaper when it comes to housing/apartments in general. |
