WOW!! I was totally oblivious to the impact this would be having on passengers trying to fly into Europe!! My bad...!

Some of us are going to go to the airport for a mini relief operation. Things like handing out basic supplies such as water, basic food (croissants & stuff), perhaps supplies for those with kids such as: milk, nappies (diapers!), wipes etc...

Of course, our aim is to help those in need regardless of race, creed etc etc etc.

If you wish to help in anyway (it can even be ideas such as who/where to get cheap supplies from), please PM me. Even if it's just moral support, it would be nice to know who cares.

Regards,

Dear Asda,

That's a fine, kind idea. Wish I were there to help.

Regards,
John

By all means, Asda. This kinda shines a whole new light on the k.o.h., doesn't it. "Humanity" doesn't EVEN enter the picture!

Wadda joke! I remember a mate of mine, many years removed from the "k.o.h." who had to supply and cajole others to come to the hospital to donate blood before blood would be given to his premie baby. Thankfully, mother and daughter are safe and well in Idaho and he's working in a country that doesn't pretend to be humane.

I know I will get it in the neck for daring to speak but

don't you ever get sick of writing negative comments that all ridicule the place n the same points!!

i know plenty a place where hypocrisy and unfairness are benchmarked against your own country's behaviour and that of its puppet master.

I really wonder if you missed the Op being positive or that over in the UK / Europe it has been even worse. Check out Ryan Air and their policy towards their customers!!

Dear S/he who finds thyself between a rock and a hard place:

In a word, No. If negativity is detected, then, as I've told people for years and years, CHANGE REALITY.

I report reality, if it is negative, then, THAT is the world that THEY created.

Good luck in saudi.

Charity is admirable - but I would suggest that this is a job for the Saudi Red Crescent, Scouts or similar who usually do things like this at Pilgrimage.

Reality Bites yeah ... but it still don't answer why you feel the need to pour scorn all over every saudi post. Its boring and i must say a little bit obessive.

Do yourself a favour stick to your super size , we got everything right the whole worlds wrong country and leave the rest of us in peace. Go bother the South American boards as uncle sams closer to them and about as popular there as in the middle east..

I mean i am all for retelling and warning again and again the suckers i mean teachers who are likely to get chewed up and spat by their bad 'kafeels' or employers however i mean the country is what it is interms of ISlam, that is the LAw if you want LA or santa fe then don't go there. However thats not to say all the fed up stuff that happens when honest people just try and do an honest job is right. Thats what we should be banging on about with as many tips as possible as to how to avoid being shafted.

Dear PoS2010 (Actually PoS means something significant in my culture...usually connected with the performance of an automobile) If'n you don't appreciate my posts...might I suggest that you ignore them...as you obviously cannot. I've been here a long time. If I step over the line, the powers that be will quickly bring me to an end.

For example. John and I are adult enough to agree to disagree. He is decidedly "for" the k.o.h. whilst I am "not". So what? It all reverts back to maturity.

I applaud Asad's initiative. I can only imagine that you are new and unmarried to the k.o.h. If for a decade you observed your spouse harangued by the "God Squad", you might have similar feelings.

God Bless, NCTBA

Dear NCTBA,

"John and I are adult enough to agree to disagree. He is decidedly "for" the k.o.h."

Umm, may I disagree? While it's true that I was fortunate enough to have a very good employer there (the IPA,) liked my job, made some very good friends, and was able to save a fair amount of money while working in the Kingdom, I don't think I'd describe myself as being "for" it.
As we all know, it's a very repressive society (especially for the ladies) and lacks a lot of the freedoms that many Westerners tend to take for granted (until they do without them, that is.)
Like every other country, the citizenry is composed of decent and not-so-decent people, with the decent ones (in my experience) far outnumbering the not-so-decent ones.
So, while I am grateful to Saudi for gainfully employing me in a job that I
found interesting and fulfilling, I wouldn't say that I'm "for" it, any more than I'm "for" any other country than my own.

Regards,
John

Please note that it is NOT my initiative. I have been less than a bit part in this effort. There are many others who have opened their doors so people can freshen up and change after 5 days in a sub-standard airport. Others have taken people into town to get things like medicines etc. Many have provided food and water, though the British Consulate is also on the ground doing things. Some have also provided baby supplies like nappies, wipes etc.

That said, things (and people!) are moving along Thank God. However, more people are likely to be coming in, no doubt feeling the effects of clearing the backlog. And there are a few people who have been there for days and a certain European airline is giving no information nor accomodation. A GCC country airline has started the odd extra flight here and there.

Many thanks to everybody for their kind words.
