This is a no-brainer. (UK)
As for post-doc positions, have you looked at the US (they have a lot more money to go around than in the UK), Australia, New Zealand, Canada, etc? |
If you prefer a research career, follow what trapezius says. I guess very few go to KSA to enchance theirresaerch career anyways (other than KAUST etc).
In my case, I have serious financial commitments to sort out and I am not that much bothered about a research focused career. |

You are right about the US. I have applied for a couple of post-doc positions in the US, but haven't had any response yet. Unfortunately I haven't found anything relevant in Australia. |

| I am definitely after a research oriented career, but I am not sure how I can secure one, given my current situation. I am wondering if it is possible to engage in research and publication while working at a Saudi university |
In KSA, you will probably be expected to teach 15 hours a week in your subject (uheard of in the US) and do all of the paperwork/committee stuff that goes along with us. If that doesn't deter research, then the lack of any kind of decent library certainly will. The only way you could do proper research is if you retain a log-in number from your previous university that will allow you to have access to their databases, e-journals, and other electronic resources.
Doing any actual research involving the students themselves will be strongly discouraged. And you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be no funding to send you to conferences, even if you have a paper to present.
From the KSA "university" point of view, you will be seen as a foreign guest worker hired to "pass" as many students as they can possibly cram into your hot, stuffy little classrooms. Research will just take you away from your REAL duties. |

Not necessarily true. Some unis in KSA do fund people to attend conferences. there is a big prestige factor attached to having people - especially Western PhDs - present papers while representing the college. |

| This may be true, especially with some of the more prestigious government universities. The private university that I worked for didn't give a rat's a$$ about research or publishing. |
