Has anyone had to do a 7 day quarantine when they got to China? This must be a new thing, surely I would have come across this by now? |

The school has told me it is required. They are processing my application at the moment, I'm waiting for the invitation letter. I knew it was weird,
just had a search for this and couldn't find a damn thing. New rule, or
do you think they just want to observe me for a week before giving me the job or something? |

Sorry, I didn't see your last message, OP. Sounds like one of these places that makes up it's own rules and passes them off as "law". |

Sounds to me like they want to waste as much time as possible on your Z visa before getting your RP so you can't wander off.
Geez! What will they think of next???? |

maybe, definately maybe. awhile back my employer had me in self-imposed quarantine after travelling abroad. they had to keep me away from the students lest i was carrying the flu bug.
i stayed at home for a week and got paid for it. |

During the H1N1 panic, people - not everybody - arriving in China were being quarantined. Some were picked up at the airport and presumably stuck in a hotel or something for a week, others were asked to stay in their apartment for a week.
I haven't heard of it happening recently but the school is probably just doing what were told to by whoever calls the shots in that city.
I'd make sure they have an internet connection working in the apartment before you arrive, otherwise a boring week could become even more boring. |

What do people in quarantine do about food ?
Do the schools arrange food delivery ?
Does someone drop a bag of food at your door and then run away ? |

Quarantine typically means you are not supposed to be around other people.
How do you go shopping to buy the weeks worth of food for the refrigerator ?
Are you supposed to go and buy a complete weeks worth of food and not run out or need more ? |

Ehh in China 'quarantine' seems to mean that people who aren't in positions of authority can't move around and people who have authority or know the guards or can convince someone in authority that they need to move around get to move around all they want.
'All the students at the school are on quarantine and can't leave the school grounds.'
'Will we have class?'
'Yes. Teachers can enter and leave.'
'Huh?'
'Wear this cloth mask. No problem. You won't get sick.' |

yes, my "home quarantine" was entirely a guffaw. walk down to the corner market, go to the internet cafe and backhome. kinda like any week unemployed. it was great and i really was revitalized by it all. |

I had a 7-day quarantine coming in, and my wife did as well as there was someone on the flight apparently exposed to H1N1.
It was a watched quarantine as well. |

I flew back into Beijing from Paris about a month ago after my vacation, and cabin staff were still checking everyone's temperature shortly after take-off. |

Somehow I think the cabin crew checking temperatures is more likely to spread any infection a passenger might have... But then again, being in the same plane for 13+ hours is going to do it anyway.
To the OP, I think they just want/need more time to check up on you and they don't want you taking any other jobs... Not that I think any school every really checks until they actually have you in the school...
Or maybe they are thinking you will have wait 7 days on arrival. It "could" happen, but that has nothing to do with your contract/visa. It would just mean they think somebody on the plane with you was sick. |

They just need to make sure you don't have rabies. |
