If one gets a work visa in Laos, can this only be used for the school which has issued it ?
And is it normal in Laos to teach on a work visa, or do many teachers only have a tourist visa ? |

The visa can be used by any organisation, or so I was advised. $30/month seems to be the going rate. |

a work visa is applied for by the school you work for and can only be used by that school, unless theyre very nice and dont cancel your visa when you leave them. basically it is up to the school who got you the visa in the first place. usually they cancel the visa as it costs quite a bit of money, somewhere in the vicinity of $300US. if they cancel the visa they can get a "refund" on what they paid, so usually schools cancel after you leave them, esp so of course if you leave on bad terms. i had a school "buy out" someone's visa once, we just compensated the previous school so we didnt have to go through all the paperwork again. can be done.
a tourist visa is $30. you can work on a tourist visa if the school in mention lets you. again it's all up to the school, however they do take quite a risk if they do this as they will be in trouble with authorities if caught, as will you be. probably just deported or fined, nothing like jail though. |
